the only seadoo motor that has had problems are the 951's in the 1997 gsx
limited, and that motor has been totally redesigned this year with no reported
problems.
just test ride some of the boats, and get what you like. don't listen to
blanket statements such as this and base your decision on it.

i believe the problem was tied into a machining defect in the cylinders, but i
am not totally sure.
plus, they redid the porting and reed cages. it is a totally different motor. i
have one, 35 hrs, no problems, radared at 64.

The reason you hear about Sea-Doo's not being reliable is because there are so
many more Sea-Doo owners then all the other PWC mfg's combined. That means more
boats so of course you will hear about more problems. I have 3 Sea-Doo and have
not had one problem.
The '97 XP is a great choice. If you want a little bit more power I'd go for
the '98 XP Limited. It is the fast boat out there and does very well in the
chop.
