The wheather was less than ideal, about 10 degrees celsius and very
overcast. I didn't care. I have been waiting and itching since
November 22 to get on this thing. So I yanked on my dry suit and went
for haul around the lake.
I putted around for about the first hour not exceeding half throttle and
never nailed it from a stand still. After the first hour, my fingers
and feet completely numb, I started to see what this thing could do.
Still not pushing it to the limits, this craft was incredible. Mid
range acceleration is very very intense. From about a 1/4 throttle to
about 3/4 throttle you have to hang on for life. Now I know why they
put that hump in the seat this year. Otherwise you would be in the
water behind this thing.
The only other craft I have run this thing beside is an SL750. My buddy
who was the only one as nuts as me to go out that day. I know it's not
much of a comparison but it was as if the 750 was standing still. And
I wasn't even running full throttle nor did it ever go beyond 3/4
throttle. This machine is nuts.
I added the R&D intake before I had a chance to ride it with the stock
one. But this thing turns on a dime and handles like it's on rails.
I love this thing. :)
I had the oppurtunity to see and SL900 at the races this weekend.
I don't know the state of modifications, but It seems that Polaris
still has trouble with accleration.
The SL900 did very poorly... I believe last place although it did
seem to have good top speed in the back stretch. It came off
the line slowly, and whatever top speed it had was not enough to
make up any ground on the race course...
The handling did not look too bad but it did not look like anything
special either.
I was impressed with a ZXi1100 which did very well, and seemed to
corner quite well also...
In the Mod 1200 class, a SeaDoo won, followed by a WR1100, and then
a ZXi1100...
On a side note: my buddy raced his 1996 GTX this weekend. This pwc
is stock except for sponsons... Although he did not have enough
acceleration to be very competitive off the line,
He did beat limited Polaris SLX...

I guess you didn't see 2 Polaris SL-900 come in 1st and 2nd in the
Expert 1200 Class. Avery on his tour full blown mod could not keep
up. The Polaris that came in 2nd place was bone stock riden by Mat
Saba #21. The Seado XP-800s were in last place. I guess you just
failed to see this race.
Sorry, I was wrong my SL900 IS a piece of shit. You're right. What was
I thinking. GEEEZZZ!
Gee Rob,
Are we a little sensitive or what? I just reported on what I
saw at the races... Just because I have seen some evidence that
the SL900 does not have the "awesome" acceleration you describe, your
still allowed to like your Polaris and have as much fun on it as you can.
In fact, I think that the Polaris would make a great offshore PWC, but
from what I've seen it's not that great on the closed course, especially
in limited form.
Others such as Victor Mux have had different experiences, that's fine too.
There is no need to take these comments personally... As I did not attack
you or your craft. I only reported on what I saw at the races...
Relax Dude, and go riding...
Rob, (are you impellor from IRC?)
The SL900 I saw at one of the races finished mid pack against some well
equiped Kaw's and Sea-Doo's, I believe it was bone stock as well, not
bad for a first showing. I'm sure I will be seing some high finishes by
the new Polaris craft at our regional races once LCP gets their mods
ready.

Thanks for the back-up Victor. At least some one knows what they are
talking about.
Actually The race I was referring to was in Lake Charles when we talked.
I didnt make it to last weekends race in Killeen.

Sounds like a bad case of ***** envy.
Uh, cool. I guess.
There, now I sound just like the rest of you whining bitches.
Ouch. Apparently I've experienced a gender change without my
knowledge. I haven't seen the post you were responding to yet,
but it obviously tripped your trigger. :-o
I
>won't even bother to tell you what I ride, because I don't wan't to make
>any of you anymore insecure than you already are.
I'm pretty damn secure in my insecurities. (Or am I secure because
of my investments in securities?) I forget. Short term memory loss
claims another victim.
You would all probably
>be much happier if you looked at your PWC as a sport rather than an
>extension of your penis.
Ow. (another painful "headshot"), whoa, now I'm very curious about
what put your panties in such a bunch! I dunno, I'm not particularly
in favor of extensions, since I suspect my overall sensitivity would
'prolly be dramatically reduced. ;-D
*(politically incorrect comment edited to in accordance with FCC
regulation 69-5150)* :-)
Actually, I consider *PWC racing* a sport, but I view riding one for
personal pleasure a recreational activity. In any case, despite my
wise-guy comments, I'm aware of the attitude you're referring to,
and I don't particularly like it either. The reality of "mine is
better than yours" is that in general, humans are very competitive
animals, and we *will* argue, fight, and even kill each other over
virtually *anything*. Some people call the "mine is better" thing
"bench racing", a fairly common motorsport related activity.
Everything "said" here is an opinion. I agree with some of them, and
vehemently disagree with others, but everyone has a right to their
view. (Even the clueless goofy ones)
Anyway, please watch it with overly general statements like "the rest
of you", "You would all", etc. It tend to doubt that *anything*
applies to *all* of us here, other than an interest in PWC.
