I, for one, would not correct probably the best rider (who does not
have English as his first language) of all time. HE was closer to this
game than any of us.

mistake that most everyone makes when focusing on one train of thought, in
this case a mare. Think of the reverse and how many times a mare has been
called a filly.

NOT when it was voiced by the best rider in the past half century. I
cut fellows like that a break the same way I wouldn't correct Einstein
or Dr. Jonas Salk if I recognized a tiny insignificant error in their

Its like listening to Kent Desormeaux say after he wins, "This might
be the best horse I've ever been on" Those jockeys blow smoke up
horsemen's ass so much its an art.
Zenyatta went in the Classic because the best horses weren't in it.
Pincay was a jockey, not a jock's agent, so ask him who was the best
agent he ever had and not the best horse he never rode, because he
knows you can't win on some of the shit, some agents get for their
boys.
I thought Braulio Baeza rode Ruffian? Ask him, not Pincay. Ruffian ran
against the clock where these other mares only beat horses.
Time is money in racing, money talks and bullshit walks back to the
barn.
What a hard luck horse Quality Road is. He run all year hurting and he
wouldn't go in the gate. Poor bugger, he's my champion. Set a record
in the Florida Derby gets hurt and comes back and runs 6.5f in :14 and
change in New York, then has to fight off the pace and that Summer
Bird just about didn't get by him. What a fighter. I hope he gets back
as a four year old, he might get a chance to show his class again.

Vasquez was the regular jockey of both Ruffian and Foolish Pleasure. In
the match race, Vasquez chose Ruffian and Baeza rode Foolish Pleasure.
I believe Shoemaker rode Forego.
I attended my first horse race in 1965 at Green Mountain Park in
Vermont, as I was spending that summer in the nearby Berkshires. On
returnong home to Philadelphia, I started going to Garden State Park in
Cherry Hill, NJ. How well I remember the great rivalry between the then
leading jockets, Jorge Velasquez and Jacinto Vasquez!

Maybe you remember? He was crafty, sneaky, sly..all the things a good
jockt needs to win races. I guess he knew how to use his dukes in the
jock's room too - another attribute of a good jock.
