I was talking to a shop in California about buying a go-ped and they
told me that it was illegal to sell go-peds and any other scooter in
the state of California. I thought it was bullshit but the more I
looked into it the more real it is. The California Air Resources Board
has determined that all scooter egines do not comply with the emmisions
standards of the state of California. They are going as far as putting
a $500 FINE FOR EVERY GO-PED SOLD. That goes for the manufactures and
for the DEALERS as well. I even called them and they told me they were
sending letters to all the dealers with this info. They wont be able to
until they get a new engine. Holy Shit! Thats alot! This sucks cuz I was
looking to buy a new one soon.
Now I know why go-ped is going to a new engine, the stratofied charge
engine. I new I have heard of that engine before. I was talking to Dan
Stapley 3 or 4 months ago and he had one in his shop for evaluation. He
said the engine put out no power and had a bad lean hesitation to it.
Even though it is a bigger engine it barely puts out 1 hp at a measley
7000 rpm. Here is the site if anyone wants to check out this situation.

if that's true, then everybody better stock up on peds now. I can see
my future, I'll be a go-ped smuggler. I'm gonna buy a Trans Am and a
big semi truck and motor across state lines.

Everybody's gonna have to import g2ds to put on their peds. I live in
Missouri, but all the dealers are in California and so is the factory.
This is gonna be weird as to what's gonna happen. The aftermarket
companies need to start making ways to make that shitty engine fast and
illegal.

Well on the first item, I dont know how accurate you are Bud, but on the
last item the motor, you are all wet as though Steve Patmont had a motor
on the Saturday ride and the Emmisions were definately Reduced, and the
thing had hourse power like crazy, personally it was faster than a stock
current G-23 with massively increased gas mileage as far as I could it
didnt burn zip in the gas department, and it hauled, as far as regulation
I guess its wait and see, there was a note on small road and off road
engines that said that they weren't going to regulate modified racing
engines ( a race motor on every ped ?) in the small motor department,
although you had to call in I guess for the Zenoha report not posted on
the web, any how Dude don't panic before there is a final decision ! Hey

Nice try dude!I am in the same boat as you. This whole thing really
sucks. I dont own or am not from any other manufacturer. You will find
out the truth in the end. Why dont you look into it a little further
then you will see. They tell me that they are sending letters to all the
dealers neaxt week about the fines. I dont want them banned any more
than you do.
As far as the new engine goes, you dont know what they did to that
engine before he took it on the ride. (gearing, timing, etc.) Just
think, what a pefect place to take a new engine and show everybody how
good it is and how fast it is. That way everyone will think it is a
great thing. I heard it first hand, from the guy who use to build the
factory's race motors, that it was slow as hell and had a huge lean
hesitation on the bottom. As far as the pull start facing down,It was
probably like that because it was a dummy pull start.Maybe a 4-stroke
is the way to go?

Dont worry about them banning them in California the new motor is going to be
faster and less polution. The strato charge moto is 26cc it will be mounted
on the gas tank side of the frame and it is faster than a g23-lh.

Since modified engines are not illegal, that just means that they have
to meet emissions when they are stock. Then we can take off whatever it
is that makes them meet the emission standards, and modify them just
like we do g23s and g2ds.

If go peds are illegal in CA, than why does go ped make them in CA and
sell them to CA retailers? And I ride my ped aroung alot and get
stopped by cops and they never say that they are illegal. Most of them
ask where to buy them for thier kids.

There's nothing wrong with the word "colloquy." May I introduce you to a

little book called a dictionary?

She was referring to the way the Go-Ped was used in this thread to refer

Flattery has nothing to do with it. The fact is that they are required by

law to try to defend their registered trademark wherever feasible or risk
having it become public domain. You obviously have never owned one nor do
you seem to know anything about trademark law.

Abraham Lincoln reportedly said, "It's better to keep your mouth shut and

Hey Pedracer,
This guy's obviously from that CARB agency, trying to stop what it is we all
love so much, and know is good for our planet.
If CARB was any good at protecting the environment it wouldn't have required
MTBE, a refinery toxic waste by-product, into the gas supply that is poisoning
the water supply in CA. The REAL poluters, big oil, payed them off so they
wouldn't have to dispose of that stuff in a very expensive way. Corruption
trying to stop gopedding freedoms will be a big mistake.

The new engine is good. We received one and it IS slightly faster and more
powerful. Box stock, we raced some stockers here while switching rider. The
new motor pulls a little while accelerating and keeps on pulling in the top
end. It's a bigger motor. The airfilter is still facing the front, but the
motor will be on the opposite side of the frame. When you ride it, that's
unnoticeable. All in all, I think it's a move in the right direction. Not too
mention, it is better for the environment. It gets about twice the fuel range
and has less emissions. We are an environmentally conscious company and it
feels good knowing that we may actually be helping the environment. Just if we
can get people to convert over from their cars!!

What kind of aftermarket stuff do you think there'll be. What makes it
so fuel efficient?

I think the new engine may not become cool for a while, simply becasue
20 mph or so is definately not fast enough me. I dunno how long it'll
be before they'res full mods for it, even now the g23 doesnt have a
head kit for it thats easy to get. Btw Tim, any chance of a real clutch
on this new motor?? And what will all ofus with G2ds and g23's do? I
dont want my ped to get outlawed, and if its on the other side of the
frame I'd have to buy a new frame too?

Hey I'm curious , has Patmont Mtr. Werks ever gone in front of the CA.
EPA to certify the GO PED(R) engine ? They said if you pick one they
certified the process is at a no cost basis to the manufacturer,(that is
minus your internal co. costs, staff, lawyers, office supplies, ect.)
well any way that was what I was told !......................Ped Racer D

It has an ingenious intake system with a two barrel carb!! One is raw air and
the other is mixed with fuel. It uses technology that burns off all the fuel,
transfering it into horsepower, rather than blowing off into the exhaust. I'm
sure people will figure out to modify them.

Legal to sell... illegal to prevent their sale even if you're a runaway
fascistic buraoucracy that does not give "due process", or fails to inform an
industry it's regulations will affect, as required of them by "democratic" law.

PedracerD, You just hit the nail on the head.
Their first try to kill Go-ped with the Calif. Motorized Scooter law they
sponsored with Senator Chesbro backfired big time against them, so now they're
using corrupt CARB officials who'll do anything for a buck, or free ZAP shares
they wanna pump up.
WE DON"T GIVE A DAMN WHAT ANYBODY THINKS, WE"RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE!

Everybody loves a conspiracy, and a personified enemy is even better.

Your theory does not hold up however, when you consider that the Zappy
products have been equally prohibited with these new enforcements. It's the
"scooter" status, not the gas v electric that is being prohibited.

They don't need a cease and desist order. Penalties are already in place.
They question is when does enforcement start?

This is somewhat like when smoking in bars was banned, it was a year or so
before serious enforcement began. All the bar owners that vowed to fight
were eventually cowed in the face of ever expanding fines after multiple
violations.
