Has anyone shot both of these darts (LaserDarts Eagles MP vs. Black
Widow MP)?
LaserDarts makes both ... any comments on Black Widow? I read a review
on the Eagle MP ... sound like great darts.
I'm fairly new to the game ... most of the guys I shoot with are using
Hammerheads (around 19gr.) I shoot ok with them but since they are the
ONLY available darts in this area, I'd like to consider something else
(if it is a 'better' dart). I realize this is a subjective thing ... And
who is throwing them makes all the difference ...
Thanks,
Scott B.

I have thrown Black Widows and/or Eagles since the early 80s.
Both are great darts and come with a lifetime guarantee. The Eagles
are center balanced and the Widows are slightly forward balanced. You
really need to throw both (before you buy) to see if one is more
natural for your grip and throwing style. A reputable dart store will
allow you to try before you buy.

I would definitely get fixed points. The moveable point Widows were
(are?) notorious for stripping out the barrels where the shaft screwed
in. I don't know about the Eagles. I have owned both fixed and MP, and
see no great difference, in bounce outs, between the two. If you
decide to go with the Widows, I would also get the knurled barrel.

I have seen a great variance on prices with these darts. You might
want to search the web for the best price. I use
http://www.horizondarts.com (no affiliation). They have reasonable
prices and excellent customer service.

I'm sure you would like either dart. My preference is the Widow, but I
also have a strange grip :-( Just stay away from the MP.

There is also a review on Crows dart page here:

Yup I'm with him on the MP, They all get loose sooner or later and I
can feel that movement in he point.
I also have shoot them both, both are good darts but you have to go with
what "FEELS" good. Try other people's (darts)at a luck or find a good
dart shop where you can try the darts before you buy.
Hell I shoot a Unicorn T-90 that I picked up at a warehouse sale for
$2.00, the long power points cost me more than the dart. then Jockey
Wilson shafts and a dimplex flight.

Scott, when I first started out 2 years ago, I threw the widows.
I had a set of 18g soft tips, and I loved them. About a year later, I got
into steel tip, and now have a set of 23g great whites. The thing I liked
about the widows was that they are a center balanced dart and have a
wonderful feel to them. Eventually, I got away from them as I needed a
heavier dart for steel shooting, and I just didn't like the steel tip
widows at all. I went with a more slender dart, but that is what I am
comfortable with.
My suggestion is to try and throw the darts before you
buy them. In this area (Dayton, OH) there is a store called the Dart
Train where you can throw any set of darts for as long as you want in the
store. I have no idea where you are, but they have hundreds of sets of
both steel and soft tip darts. If you are not far away, I would suggest
heading there and finding out what is best for you.
the best dart you can throw is the set that you grip the same each
time, and release the same each time. The wdiows were great for that, and
I learned a lot throwing those darts. If ya like a center balanced dart
with a good fel and grip, they are great.

Happy tonnage, and shot well

-Tony

reson I got them.

I decided on the The Bottelsen 23 gram Movable Points (MP), went to a
Kite flight (and shorter shaft). The shop I was referring to (in my
previous note) bought out another dealer, so, they had more than just
Hammerheads (I was glad to see the variety and try a few different
things). I shot allot of darts yesterday afternoon before buying the
Bottelsen's (and made allot of modifications to find what worked best).
It's nice to be able to hit what I'm aiming at (a better percentage of
the time)!! I shot the Blackwidow fixed points very well, however, I
wanted a MP. The MP by Laserdarts needs an engineering change, stripping
out the shaft or having to use nylon isn't the best engineering in my
book. Any time I tried the Hammerheads, in the past, I thought I wasn't
that accurate, now I know why ... I was shooting a 19 gram (or 20 ...
not sure), and the dart was just too light for me. A 22 or 23 gram dart
seems much better to me.
Thanks to all of you for the much needed guidance (now to practice for
at least one hour a day). OK, so I went a little overboard and shot for
5 hours yesterday (total ... with some breaks) Enthused? yeah, a
little!

Tony,
I did go with a coarse knurled (sp?), center balanced dart (the
Bottelsen's 23 gram Movable points). I didn't really care for the front
loaded dart (like the Bottelsen GT's) I can't remember all the other
brands I tried, Great White maybe? and a few sets of Harrows). I had a
tendency to drop the front weighted darts (shoot low). I know I could
get used to them with practice though. It was good to be able to try 3
or four differnt brands (and several models of each brand) and
experiment with weight and balance and shafts and flights.
