I've been hooked on the PDC World Champs this year and fancied giving
the sport a shot myself. I've had a few goes but there's no real
technique going on about hold to hold the dart when throwing, how to
aim, etc, I was wondering if you guys knew of any good resources to use
when starting to play the game.

Cheers,

Here's some sites with tips I like to recomend:

http://www.dartbase.com/frames.php3?x=technics.htm
http://www.users.bigpond.com/bullseye/technique.htm
http://www.sfda.net/clinic.html
http://www.john-lowe.net/Pro-Tips/Smoother%20Release.htm (check the
pro tips menu item)
Good luck, and remember to relax and enjoy the game!

Thanks. I'll give those a good look at work tomorrow. I just got my
first 140. :-D. After a 100 yesterday I'm quite happy. I think I might
need to invest in a proper set of darts rather than those that came with
the board but it's fun giving it a try so far. I'm probably getting an
average of around 35-40 per 3 darts. Not sure how good that is for
someone with about 4 hour practice.

If you want to track your progress and work out your averages
automatically (and you have a laptop or PC near your dartboard) have a
look at DartPro at http://www.rusys.nl/dartpro/ . It's free to use,
and you'll be able to see your monthly averages in graph form.

My current average is 52 in games of 501 straight start double finish,
which it has been hovering around for the last 6 months. The average
includes your finishes, but you also get in-game feedback on what your
first 9 dart average in each of the games of 501 or 301.

That software looks great I'll have to give it a try over the next few
days. I was using something else but it simply keeps the score but you
do get to click where you hit on the board so it's quite nice and quick
between games.

My 140. http://www.deflexion.net/darts/140.jpg
I'm so proud!

Cheers also to Dart Talker for the link to the forum site. Looks good
for learning new things, I especially like the idea of throwing flight
first, might have to give that a go for a laugh.

Yep, I've played with the flight first thing a few times when I need a
break and find it to be fun.
