After talking to my pro about getting my new ball, he gave me a list of four
that he said pretty much fit the description of what I wanted, a ball that
hooked a fair bit more than my Chaos (original) and that goes a bit longer.
The four he suggested are: Columbia Rock On
Ebonite Apex
Track Red Enforcer
Morich Colossus

I am familiar with the first three companies, but Morich is apparently a new
company I am not familiar with. Although I imagine these are all fine balls, I
worry about getting a ball from a company without much history. I have heard
about many balls, especially Brunswick, that begin to lose their after reaction
after a very few games(like 100 or less). I practice a lot and bowl 2 leagues
and I need a ball that will last a while, like my Chaos has. Anyone have any
hints or info on Morich? Thanks.

That one was interesting, thanks. I had already looked at the other link you
gave me.

Tony,

I have a Labyrinth and two friends use a Minotaur. They work exactly,
PRECISELY
as Mo and company describe, WHEN you drill them according to the
insructions.
I left mine at stock 500 matt cover and it clears the heads easily on
everyhting but almost bone dry.

Mo advertises the Colossus as an oiler of the first magnitude, so I
suspect it is, even though it is shined where the Laby and Mino come
dull 500 grit.

BTM reviewed the Colossus and it is off the chart in hooking power.
Bowlers' Journal has their premier tester, (He's known as Leftytester
on the www.ballreviews.com website), his name is Dave Beach, doing a
special test of
a large group of differently drilled Colossus balls. I imagine the
results will be published in a recent issue of Bowlers' Journal.

I suspect the Colossus is just above the Rock On in oil handling and
hooking ability and at least equal it in sheer power. That puts it
well above the Enforcer and the Apex (not really an oil ball) in the
overall scale.

I'd also guess that the Colossus can easily replace the Chaos and
handle a wider range of consitions. At least My Labyrinth and my
friend's Minotaur can.
I'd expect no less from the Colossus.

Only one essential: FOLLOW THE DRILLING INSTRUCTIONS!

Good luck,

Jeff

I had just planned a straight label drilling. Thanks for all the information.
That really helps a lot. And I will also try to check out some of the ball
reviews you mentioned.

MoRich is founded by Mo Pinel (the guy that designed the Purple 3-D Offset
Hammer)

He knows a LOT about bowling ball dynamics and the like, but sometimes can get
too wordy in his explanations and go over the layman's head.

That said, I know someone who has thrown some of the earlier MoRich equipment
and likes them. I have read teh Colossus materials and I'm sure it is, as you
say, a fine ball.

The 3-D Purple/Violet hammer saved Hammer from going broke - I think they need
another one.

The 3-D Purple/Violet was probably the best ball in the last 10 years for
modern conditions. The good thing about it was that there was really only one
way to drill it thus keeping drillers from trying all their weird ideas out on
the public.

It'll never happen, becasue every ball they design with that core, they have to
pay Mo Pinel royalties for designing it, and he doesn't work fo them anymore so
it kinda hurts them a bit to do somethign like that.

So don't pay Mo anymore and go broke again... Maybe they can merge with AMF.

IIRC, the story going around at the time, the royalty was only $1 a ball. Not
the kind of number that would hurt Faball.

I didn't hear a number from the person at Hammer I talked with about this
(he/she will remain unnamed for this conversation) however by the tone of this
person's description, I'd say it couldn't have been only a buck a ball. It
sounded much more serious than that.

Columbia. The coverstocks are Columbia's but the Morich people I spoke
to say they do not which cover formulations they are, as Columbia
would not identify them for Morich. Columbia gave them some samples;
Morich tested them, selected the ones they liked and poof! they have
another bunch of winners.
FWIW, the Labyrinth is one cover, the Minotaur and the Colossus are
another, with the Colussu's being shined. The Laby and the Mino have
a 500 grit matt finish.

That's the story I know from emails with Morich, reading BTM,
Bowlers' Journal, http://www.ballreviews.com and the Morich website.

Oh, one caveat: Drill them the way Morich says.

Too late!
Storm's already buying them, or so the story goes.
