Hello,

I am trying to decide between R1 and R9. Even though the specs say that
the R9 is more powerful (higher muzzle velocity and greater muzzle energy
FP(16.6 vs 14.4) with higher cocking energy), the salesman at more than one
place told me that R1 was more powerful. I would appreciate input from
people with experience with both. Besides power, are there other reasons to
choose one above the other? Why is R9 cheaper than R1? Thanks.

The R-1 has a higher potential to generate more power.

there are a bunch of after market kits out there that can boost the R-1 to
22+ ft-lbs.
R-9 is a lighter gun...but that is basically the power limit as stated.

My Stock R-1 with .177 is about 15 ft-lbs
My Gas Ram R-1 .22 is currently tuned to about 19 ft-lbs.

awww,ooooo, i want one!
what does your gas-ramm R1 shoot like? whats the practical and extreme hunting
range?
got any velocity data on it? How does it group?how about a review?
Ever thought about puting the gas ram into the .177, youll get even more
ft/lbs, you just have to find a sturdy pellet?
Enough questions, more drooling!

The lock time for a Gas ram is much quicker and less twangy than a spring.
Range is out to about 70 yards is my estimate...quite far.
.22 gas ram: 780 fps with 14.3
.177 springer: 850fps with 9

I can put the .177 barrel on the rammed gun but not really necessary to why
want to get better power at muzzle only to loose it down range.

I have .177 pellets that is 14 grainers...but not necessary

In contrast, my Korean 707 Career PCPs kicks the R-1s tail every step of the
way when hunting.

Alam,
The Beeman R9 has a smaller power plant than the R1. This allow a tuner more
room in the R1 to install a spring that can compress more air at a faster rate.
When properly balanced, the R1 can propel a 10.5 grain pellet at 900 fps while
the R9 tunes best in the high 800s with an 8 grain pellet both in .177. Compare
13.5 fps with the R9 against 17+ fps with the R1. With tuning, selection of the
spring; spring guide; piston; piston seal; lubricant; and damping compound as
well as it's installation are critical. Of course the R1 has more metal and is
heavier than the R9. An R1 in .20 or .22 uses gets the most out of it's power
plant.
