Back in the mid-80's the online service "The Source" had a game called
PITS, described as "A fantasy and exploration game" (in their appendix
16-9).

The game had more puzzles and rooms than Zork, used VERB NOUN
DIRECT-OBJECT format, and had some of the most descriptive texts I had
ever seen in an adventure game.

I remember exploring, finding something like a zillion-dollar-bill and
walking up to a "bridge for sale" sign... (there being no bridge) ...and
entering BUY BRIDGE BILL, then a thousand mini-hellicopters filled the
air, elves (or something) came out, built the bridge, and took my bill.
This opened a path to a valcano like mountain....

I never got to finish the game, scoring close to 3 out of 860-some
points in two days. (It was hard!)

When CompuServe came in, the game disappeared. I talked with some
insiders there who told me they thought the game ran on a Data General.

Either way, I'm looking for the game, the author, or the source (with
hopes to port it to Linux and/or DOS/Windows). If anyone has any info,
or even just remembers it (I only have one page of obsecure
documentation to prove this thing ever existed), please leave a message
here or send email to <ww...@wwco.com>

Many thanks.
