Comcast is dropping their "complimentary newsgroups service" as of October 25, 2008. Anybody know of a good free newsgroup service?

Thanks in advance
Tim

Nuffink's free in your Ammuricanised World.

<giganews.com> will provide an excellent service for a relatively low
cost.

Can I change worlds?

Sadly, $8 a month is more than I can afford, but thanks for the suggestion.

According to Giganews' site, it seems every major ISP here is dumping newsgroups. I guess that 40 bucks I shell out for Internet
(not to mention the other $110 for phone & cable) doesn't get me as much as it used to...

Well, it seems to be a trend of (North American) ISP's refusing to
include Usenet service as "basic".

Mine still provides free Usenet access as long as the groups are
"non-binary" (i.e. no pictures/vids) which doesn't do me much good for
"guys in underwear" or transportation situations like "trains".

ISP's in other parts of the world (Down Under for example) don't even
offer any Usenet access.

But if you're forking over $100+/month for media, why would the price
of a movie ticket/month be a problem?

Ah, I was chatting with "Larry" a week or so back on an IRC group, and
he's decided not to pursue paid Usenet, so all his posts on ABPEMU are
toast/gone.

Nobody:

Your comments regarding the price of a movie ticket were dead on
accurate! Time to grow up and face a basic reality boys, good things
have a price. For those of us in the States, think of the money you
are saving now on one tank of gas compared to 3 months ago. That will
pay for a year of giganews or easynews in a few fill-ups.

I can't see these groups fade away without trying to keep some
interest going. I'm leaving on vacation starting Oct 21, but will post
some pictures for 3 days to hopefully kickstart these groups.

I'll post as I can when I return later in November. I hope others will
join, and keep these groups on target with subject matter. Seriously
guys, the pictures some of us have seen over and over are still new to
someone just starting, and they will appreciate them. Just post what
you have, every now and then, and this can work.

And yes, I know ASU isn't binary, but that was the first newgroup I
found years ago, and will always hold a warm spot.

Funny thing is, traffic to/from Usenet groups is actually growing.

I'd post/upload, but I have no idea (and I mean absolutely NO idea)
where you (GNB and Larry) find your material/pictures.

Well, I stopped going to the movies years ago because I couldn't afford it. As for the price of gas, you don't really think that's
going last much beyond the election, do you? Not to mention the fact that it's still 50 cents more than it used to be. Plus,
everything else has gone up in price.

I'll miss all you guys and your great posts, but sadly, it comes down to money and I ain't got any extra. It's hard enough
justifying the money I currently spend on stuff I don't really need and still keeping the lights on here.

I called Comcast when I first read this and was told this isn't true.
Guess we'll have to wait 3 more days to find out for sure. This could
be a ploy to lure people over to Gignews.

I hope you're right, but I got a very official looking e-mail from Comcast about it, a possible spoof, but check out this page:
