Pirate radio stations

had just been closed down by the powers that be.
I was intrested because i didn.t think there would be any pirate stations
left with access to community radio being somewhat easier than it was a
decade ago!!!!!!
Ok lets get to the point...Are there any other sations in/around nottingham
that are "on air!"???
In answer to some who may ask...no im not a RA dude !!!

The only regular station left as far as I know is Heatwave which can be
found on 87.9Mhz.
They seem to be mainly a West Indian station playing everything from Gospel
to reggae and beyond. They are on between Friday evening and the early hours
of Monday morning.
Other than that I hear City FM occasionally on 106.7Mhz but there doesn't
seem to be a regular timetable for them. They play dance and chart music.
It's a shame really as there used to be quite a few stations when I first
moved to Nottingham, Scene, Buzz, Centre and Castle etc but now it's mostly
the same purile Trent type drivel on every frequency, ( Why does every woman
on local radio sound exactly the same?).
If you are on the Derby side you might be able to hear Star and Touch but I
haven't heard them for a while so it's possible they've been chased of as
well.

There is no such station as "Downtown Radio", and I cannot remember there ever
being!!

There certainly used to be a Scene FM. I don't know what happened to it
though. Anyone got any ideas?

I have never heard of Stress FM but Scene FM were in the Evening Post only
last week, when the Manager and two DJ's were found guilty at the
Magistrates court and were sentenced for running a pirate station.
The Free Radio Network used to broadcast on Thursday nights and consisted of
Buzz FM, Castle FM and Centre Radio. I seem to recall that Buzz transmitted
on 102.MHz, Centre on 103.MHz and Castle on 108Mhz. Although they
occasionally transmitted separately I mostly heard them when they did their
network link-up on Thursday evenings.
Buzz had a couple of DJ's I think but the main man was someone called Dave
Norris. Buzz went off the air around the end of 1997 and I remember hearing
Norris sometime later on one of the other stations saying that he had been
busted by the DTI but I don't remember anything in the paper. The other two
stations kept going for a while after Buzz's demise but I haven't heard
either of them for some time, perhaps someone out there knows if they were
busted too?
As for Downtown they are a Nottingham pirate and I have heard them fairly
recently on 106.MHz. They play mainly black music but they don't seem to
have a regular timetable though I think they are more likely to be on early
in the week, evenings only.

Sorry, my spell checker screwed up the frequencies, Buzz was on 102.5Mhz,
Centre on 103.2Mhz and Castle on 108Mhz.
Downtown is still on 103.2Mhz

The best pirate radio station used to be Rave FM, but they couldn't
raise the funds for a licence.
Maybe digital licences will be cheaper as the bandwidth available is
silly, and therefore more independents might actually make a go of it,

just for the record i used to be a swl and of course i would of heard most
of the stations mentioned!!!
but im intrested in any new stations in the nottingham area ,just in case i
missed them!
