Perry: Obama 'hell-bent' on socialism

Texas GOP Gov. Rick Perry accused President Barack Obama on Wednesday of
“punishing” Texas and being “hell-bent” on turning the United States into
a socialist country.
Speaking at a luncheon for a Midland County Republican Women’s group,
Perry said that “this is an administration hell-bent toward taking
American towards a socialist country. And we all don’t need to be afraid
to say that because that’s what it is.”
Perry praised the tea party movement to the Republican activists in
attendance, crediting the grassroots groups with discouraging some
Democrats in Washington from pushing for a public option in the health
care bill.
“If you all think those tea parties didn’t work, then let me tell you
something,” Perry said. “When they all came home in August for those town
hall meetings, they got an earful. Then they went back to Washington,
D.C. and the Senate voted that public option down in committee with a
majority of Democrats in the Senate.”
Perry also accused the Obama administration of intentionally dumping
illegal immigrants from other western states in Texas, recalling a
conversation he had with local officials notifying him that illegal
aliens that were caught in Nogales, Arizona were being dropped off by
federal authorities in Presidio, Texas.
“Friday a week ago, I got not a phone call from Washington, not a letter
from Washington and as a matter of fact, I don’t think any member of our
congressional delegation was even notified. The first time we were
contacted was by the superintendent of the school and the county judge of
Presidio County,” Perry said.
“They said, ‘do you all know what’s fixin’ to happen?’ I said, ‘well, no.
What’s going on?’ They said ‘the government has just called us and said
for us to get ready for an influx of illegal aliens who were captured
illegally crossing the border.’”
“It’s called the alien transfer-and-exit program,” Perry told the crowd,
“trucking them from Nogales, past El Paso down to our western border in
Presidio.”
The Texas governor said he sees the action as “punishing this state” and
urged the assembled Republicans to “stand up” to Washington.
“I say it’s time to make tea parties twice as big as what they were,”
Perry declared. “I think it’s time for us to stand up and say to
Washington, D.C. that we are no longer going to accept that kind of stuff
sitting down and being quiet.”

Slavery: The belief that people can be property
Corporatism: The belief that property can be people.
You know how much I laugh at all of this talk?
We just got rid of a president who tried his damnedest to turn this
country into an authoritarian dictatorship, and he made nary a dent.
He did, however, practically destroy the economy on his way out, and
did pretty much nothing to reverse the trend. Now, we have a guy in
there who is trying to re-introduce capitalism to the economy, and
they cry "socialism" at every turn.
We have three co-equal branches of government. This concept that ANY
president can change the governmental system -- which I think you'll
agree would have to happen to make us "socialist" -- is ludicrous. At
the very least, one would have to amend the Constitution quite
heavily, which would require three-quarters of states to go along with
it. How stupid do you have to be to think 37 states would just vote to
ditch the capitalism for the socialism?
(Wingnuts... that question was rhetorical... no need to actually
answer...)

So, is he just really stupid, or does he just think his followers are
really stupid?

Those tea parties only served as entertainment. But you know what?
Those few people who weren't convinced the GOP was overrun by cranks
before are more and more convinced of it every day. The number of
voters willing to identify themselves as Republican is down to 20%.
Maybe it'll get down to 15% soon...

No, it isn't. The border crossing in Nogales is under construction,
and doesn't have the space it once had. Presidio is the closest border
crossing that isn't absolutely overwhelmed right now.
These are illegals who have been caught and are being sent back; WTF
difference does it matter whether they get sent back from Texas or
Arizona, as long as they go back? Federal custody is federal custody.
I'm also pretty sure Perry had to have given his permission at some
point for this, but don't quote me on that; I'll have to check it
out...

Yeah, by all means, make the tea parties bigger and even crazier!

To MANDATE socialism (and good luck defining it!) would require extensive
surgery on the Constitution. However, as it now stands, the constitution
makes no mention of an economic system, but merely upholds the power of
the government to regulate trade and commerce, and establish courts to
deal with all contract law.
I think you will see a shift back from Randian "fresh water economy" to
something more along the lines of a regulated capitalism, simply because
only 20% of Americans believe that capitalism works well any more.
