PHILADELPHIA A Philadelphia man who operated car washes in Norristown
and other area locations was sentenced Sept. 15 to one year of probation
that includes six months home confinement for his role in a scheme to
employ illegal immigrants at the car washes, according to federal
prosecutors.
Robert Kramer, 56, pleaded guilty, June 1 to employing at least 50
illegal immigrants, with constructive knowledge that they were not
authorized to work in the United States.
From 2000 through March 13, 2006, Car Care employed undocumented
workers at car washes under Kramers supervision in Norristown,
Flourtown and Bryn Mawr and in Cherry Hill, N.J., according to the U.S.
Attorneys Office of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Kramer was general counsel of Mace Security International and chief
operating officer of Car Care Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mace
Car Care, which ran more than 50 car washes in Pennsylvania, New Jersey,
Delaware and three other states.
According to the federal information used to charge Kramer, Car Care
hired undocumented workers, gave them the names of former employees,
then paid the workers with checks bearing the names of the former workers.
Car Care owned both self-service and full-service car washes, including
four full-service car washes in Norristown, Flourtown, Bryn Mawr and
Cherry Hill, N.J. Though the self-service businesses had few employees,
the full-service car washes employed many workers to clean, dry and
detail cars.
Company workers in Norristown and elsewhere were paid by check and told
to cash their checks at a local bank branch near the car wash. In an
informal arrangement the bank cashed checks for employees without
requiring identification if those workers wore car-wash T-shirts or
sweatshirts, according to U.S. prosecutors.
Obama said he would crack down on Employers that hire illegal aliens.
That sentence should scare the shit out of them.
That bastard should have gotten at least one year in prison. Assets
should
have been seized.

I used to work at the Flourtown car wash if it is the same one. Then
they hired prisoners on work release from the local jail but that had
to be a different owner over thirty years ago.
I also worked at a car wash during the summer when I was in school. Now
people are saying American citizens won't do these jobs, and I say they
can't do them because they don't have the opportunity.

Gosh! What were YOU in prison for?
I thought someone would say something like that.I was never in prison
but I think the owner was able to pay prisoners below the minimum wage
and that is why he hired those other guys.
"Lack of opportunity" is a poor excuse used by those with a lack of work
ethic.
Are you saying that the millions of out of work people have a lack of
work ethic? If so you should be true to your name and be SILENT.
I should have said denied the opportunity by 30 million illegal aliens.
Sorry, couldn't help myself, no disrespect intended ... I just had to pull
your chain ;-)
Blowing smoke from burning bullshit, are we? Are you saying that *all* of
those folks out of work are unemployed because of illegal aliens? I believe
the present economic climate has much more to do with it than illegal
aliens. And I seriously doubt if there were no illegals, everyone that is
employable would have a job. ECON 101 teaches that the premium employment
rate is around 4%. Any lower than that, labor costs become inflated, product
and services quality decreases, overall inflation increases, and leads go
economic depression.
> If so you should be true to your name and be SILENT.
I could, and still make more sense than you.
Would the American citizens do the jobs of illegals at the same pay? I doubt
it. They would rather live off the dole and the charity of others. Doing
such jobs at such pay would be "beneath" them. This is what I mean by lack
of work ethic.
No they won't do the jobs at the same pay, and they shouldn't have to.
Thirty years ago the pay at meatpacking plants was twenty dollars an
hour, with health and retirement benefits. Today it's about ten dollars
an hour with no benefits, because there is a one hundred percent
turnover rate in one year.
The owners of these companies deliberately relocated to rural areas to
break the unions. Then they advertised in Mexico for new workers.
The same has happened with the service industry.
Hotel sued for hiring only Hispanic maids

The government has filed a discrimination lawsuit against the owners of
a Best Western hotel in Northern Virginia, charging that they would
employ only Hispanic maids.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed the suit Wednesday in
U.S. District Court on behalf of three women who lost their jobs at the
Mount Vernon Best Western in April 2007. All three women are non-Hispanic.
The suit says that a new owner - Mount Vernon Holdings, LLC - bought the
hotel in 2007. Employees were required to reapply for their jobs, and
the lawsuit claims that only Hispanics were hired for housekeeping
positions.
A manager for the new owners expressed her preference for hiring
Hispanics as housekeepers, according to the lawsuit.
While the lawsuit names three women specifically, it states that
numerous women who had been housekeepers at the hotel for as many as 15
years lost their jobs to Hispanics who were either less qualified or no
more qualified than those they replaced.
The lawsuit seeks back pay and unspecified monetary damages for the
women who lost their jobs as well as punitive damages against Mount
Vernon Holdings.
A manager at the hotel hung up the phone when asked about the lawsuit.
The EEOC typically files fewer than 300 discrimination lawsuits every
year, and only a few dozen each year deal with discrimination based on
national origin.

You have it all wrong. It's unethical for employers to pay anyone the salary
that they are paying illegal's!
I drove past the Flourtown car wash a few times in the past weeks and
saw nothing but mexican looking workers still working there.
Obama is not punishing the employers like he promised. They need to go
to prison. That is the only thing that will get their attention.
He is exactly like Bush when it comes to going after companies that
knowingly hire illegal aliens.
And the guy before him and the guy before him etc etc, But this is a
local matter also and the local people should not use that car wash.
