What type of grease should i use to do the chassis on my 700 Powder Special?
Anyone ever used grease on the slides?

Low temperature grease is what you should use throughout the sled. You
don't put grease on the sliders. It would just wash off with the snow.
Snow is what the sliders need to keep them cool and lubed which is why it's
not good to run on a low snow condition for too long. If you ever change
the sliders, use high quality, graphite type for longevity. Check your
track clips to make sure none are worn down/rusted out or jagged, chewing up
the sliders.

Well, AG (haven't seen him around here for years) would take his hyfax,
drill 1/16" (I think) holes through out them. then filled the holes with
high temp grease. He swore the that he doubled the life of them.

I run mine down a table saw to put a few 1/16th grooves into them.......
length ways naturally..... ;-)
Snow and ice packs in real well and helps lube things up......
but that's just me.....

I use Mobil 1 synthetic grease for lubing the chassis........

What I should have said is "You *normally* don't put grease on the sliders".
Sounds like the holes and grease trick could work. But, I did answer the
OP's original question if his sliders are unaltered.

I might give it a try next time I replace my sliders.

Hey Jeff,
Although this sounds similar to the holes with grease idea, wouldn't this
reduce the amount of material that can wear down? In other words, they
would wear down faster. Cross sectionally, you reduce the amount of
material that can support the clips lengthwise by 3/16th if you put 3
grooves. The packed snow and ice might only help if the slider was to warm
up and melt it out.

What kind of longevity have you had with this method? Just curious as I am
looking at any way of extending slider life.

I appreciate the answers guys. The reason I ask is because my machine is a
Biatch to pull backwards. I wondered if greasing it up including the
sliders, would make it more limber.Maybe my track is too tight. I dont know
but i figure if i can get it to pull backwards easier, then it should
certainly help it when goin forwards too.

Are you pulling the bee-otch backwards in gear, or in neutral? {EFG}

evil?
Even when I release the parking brake, the carbides digging into the cement
cause me grief...

You know,
my ZR 800 USUALLY rolled out of the tilt trailer most of the way out
anyway..... track was very loose (no need to run banjo string tight without
studs) just tilt the trailer and get the hell out of the way....... Julie's
F-5 did the same thing. Now with a four place flat trailer I just drive off
so I'm not sure how my ZR 900 would be.. I would expect the same results...
One big thing that also helped was the ski guides my trailer had..... VERY
friction free and always aided with off loading.

I wouldn't do that, under any circumstances. The first thing that is
likely to happen, is that a piece of gravel will get stuck in one (or
more) of the holes (and grease would make it stick better), and you
will saw a grove into the track clips.

I would think in the 25000+ miles I had these on my sleds that would more
than likely happened if it was going to....

If one doesn't feel safe in doing so then by all means run regular hyfax and
laugh at me as you blow by me out on the trail..... ;-)
To each his own....
I ride green, many ride yellow, blue or red....... whatever floats your
boat.

AG is on Arctic chat.com and he's still doing that to his sliders. There
was a whole thread on it this season about doing this. A couple other guys
did it also and swear it works great as well. They are trying to figure out
still the best grease to use on them. AG says his will push with one hand
on the snow. That's how little friction is there with the grease on it.

AG and I got started on this whole slider thing (his idea first) for
unloading. I use plastic on plastic for
the ramp. Check out my domain for other ideas and remember to let
gravity be your friend.
