Further adventures trying to get a list of precanceled stamps for sale for
bulk mailings, in which denominations, in which quantity, whether the
adhesive is water-activated or pressure sensitive, and if there's a choice
of stamp... The usual quantities are coils of 500, 3000, or 10000, but
not everything is available in every choice.
There's nothing in the philatelic catalog, although one can order
strips of 5 bulk mail stamps in different denominations, so I guess I
can use that to make up the difference so I don't have a lot of stamps
remaining from a coil of 500.
They kept telling me to call back to reach Stamp Fulfillment Service,
but the new philatelic catalog must have dropped at the end of last
week and they wouldn't answer the phone on Friday. On Monday, I got into
a call queue that allowed me to enter a number for callback; by the time
they called back, Stamp Fulfillment Service had closed. They gave me a
number to try this morning.
The woman scanned in one side of a two-sided order form and sent it in
email. In a separate email message, she sent the address to mail it to.
The form has spaces for credit card payment, but she told me that I must
use a check. Why does the form ask for payment that they can't handle?
There's a blank column for item number. She didn't actually answer my
question about stamp availability, and she didn't send it to me in writing,
so I can't place the order.
I really really wanted the list of available stamps and types, because
the clerk who works the wholesale stamp window wasn't exactly clear on
what they had in inventory and what they'd have to order for me. I don't
care if it takes a couple of weeks, I just need to know.
I have no idea how the post office stays open.
