HUH????
Last night there was a party for all the graduating seniors. A bunch of the
guys kept saying they were going to go out afterwards to South Street and get
something tattood or pierced. The most popular choice was a decending dove on
their shoulder. Another suggestion was the school logo on their butts, which
they could flash at graduation! In the end I think they all just went home...

Oh jeez, I just don't *get* the fascination about Tattoos. My
friend told me on the phone last night that she thinks she's
going to get one when she's in FL next week visiting her BF.
I told her, "Well, you're blonde, you don't know any better".
She took offense. So, I took it back and said she's probably
doing it because she's going TO BE 40 NEXT WEEK and over
the hill and all...

She hung up <g>

WOW!! What a great idea....but I only had 782 when I got back. What
happened. You guys have a slow week???

The vacation was wonderful. We got back yesterday but I was so wiped out
from having fun I only read a bit. You know how hard it is to party and
shop don't ya?? I don't think there was a store in Ensenada we missed. we
also saw a really interesting winery. Had to get a few bottles while we
were at it. Catalina was okay but the tour we took drove us on a quick spin
around the island then dumped us off at a botanical garden for an hour. The
only thing in the garden was cactus and ice plant. Boy was that a thrill!!
San Diego was fine. Shopped a little bit but then I've been there and love
the place. We didn't have as much time there as I would have liked so I
guess we have to go back later.

I had a wonderful time and I'm wanted to stay on the ship but they objected
so I had to leave. <<:-( >> In a few days I will have some of the
pictures of our adventures up on my web site. I'll let ya all know when I
get it done.

I think its better to get one as you get older.
IMO its not to recapture youth or anything,
but youre wiser in making a basically life
long decision.

I feel better that I waited until I was <gulp>
30. I thought about it for 2 years. So I knew
it was something I really wanted and just didnt jump into.

I have 7 tattoos--one started out as a home-made rose
(anniversary present from ex#1), all the rest professional
pieces. The first was when I was 26, the next when I was 30
and all the rest since 1995.

I love my art! Each piece represents a special time or
period in my life and is very special. I was never trying
to 'recapture' my youth--this was something I decided I
wanted to do.

Some of the people I work with laugh at me for: A)spending
the money on something 'immaterial' and B)for how I am going
to feel about them in 30 years. Frankly, if I end up senile
in some nursing home, I hope I can give the poor nurses aid
a giggle.

I have only one more piece planned. It is going to be an
open book, with my mom's name and birth/death dates on the
pages. Since my mother's greatest gift to me was a love of
the written word, this seemed like the best memorial I could
give her.

Nah, I just didn't wear a bra and wore short-shorts...

Oooh, ick. BAD mental image. No, I just have a swimsuit

exposed (front and back). I am now 'Lobster Woman' and

Shit, you all knew I would jump in on this one, and Janet, you just
had to say that, didn't you? ROFLMAO!

Maybe she would like RI then? ROFLMAO.....sorry, had to be said.
<giggling hysterically>

Okay, tattoos and the age thing.....here is my take on the whole
thing.

Many people I know have gotten tats. Many have done it when they were
young and impetuous (I don't think I spelled that right) and they
(well some of them) have regretted it. I'm like Eva, I think it was
her that said it anyway, I think that its best to get one after you
are older so that you are more equipped to make lifelong decisions.
Although a tat can now be surgically removed...why would you get one
thinking that? You know?

I think tats are beautiful. What a wonderful way to express yourself.
I like body art, period. But then, no one would know that about me,
now would they? <giggle> Me, with the pierced tongue (Which I LOVE).

I *WAS* going to get a tat until I got a really close up look at
Nik~'s being done. Nope, not gonna do it, wouldn't be prudnet (sp?).
At least for me it wouldn't be because it *LOOKED* like it really,
really hurt, tearing through the skin and all that! YE-OUCH!

Anyway, there is my ramblings. (And I am rambling...LOL)

L&Body Art....

I had wanted a tattoo since I was 13.. I waited until I turned 32. A birthday
gift from my Mom <g> well... she did give me the money.. and said to spend it
on myself.. for something I really wanted :-) I got a Lions head.. pen & ink
type drawing.. for the "leo" that I am. I have never regretted it, don't think
I ever will. my second tat is a butterfly (I know how typical) but again,
something I wanted... the only other one I want is a piece on my back.. the
full back.. but since that takes time & money and a good artist.. it may wait
another year or so... maybe for the big 4-0.

A rose by any other name would stick you just as bad and draw just as much

See, thats the thing... I have a very low tolerance for pain, and believe me
when
I say this... It hurts...but its a bareable<sp?>
pain..really... Its not like your sitting there
screaming your head off.

The one I got took 2 1/2 hours..its pretty big,
but it was over before I knew it...

I dont know if youre talking about me waiting
for two years, but theres a couple of reasons
why I did.

1- I did know what I want, but I didnt just
want it off the wall of some place. So I put
together my own.

2- I also waited because I kept turning it
over and over in my mind. And after 2 years
I realized that I still really wanted it. No
matter what anyone said to me, it all came
back to what I wanted.

Mine is a rose and I love it! It is a work of art. The guy even went as far
as to as highlights and shading so it has depth. I hope when I'm old and
senile it won't wilt. So far it hasn't.

I have 2 tattoos. The first I got was a Japanese Kanji symbol meaning *Love*.
I've always had an intense interest in the Japanese culture and I think the
Kanji script is beautiful. And I wanted one that meant something good. My
second was a black panther with a myraid of tribal art surrounding it. My
grandmother and I were really close and when I finally came out about my abuse,
she was the only one who truly supported me. I would spend hours at her house
and I remember her showing me books of large cats..... she loved the panther
the most. She was the one who taught me to love and appreciate animals and
nature. I remember that before she got sick, we must have bought and lovingly
painted over a dozen of those ceramic statues that you can get in some pottery
shops, of black panthers. This was something that I wanted because A. I
thought it was beautiful B. SHE would have thought it was beautiful and C.
It makes me think of her every time I look at it.

I have a few other tattoos I would like to get, but they don't hold any deep
meaning for me so they WILL be ones I think about for quite awhile before
getting them.

I describe it as an intense bee sting feeling that lasts start to finish. Very
irritating, especially the vibration, but not excruciatingly unbearable. My
Kanji tattoo took 40 minutes and my panther has about 5-5 1/2 hours work on it
altogether now, spread over 3 sessions. That's my only gripe with mine. My
artist is a really good friend <ie, cheap tattoos> so I usually go in and wait
til he's done at the end of a day and then he works on me for as long as he can
til he's tired. First night on my panther was 3 1/2 hours and we finished at
5am. I get tired getting mine done =). BUT, most of you have seen my back
piece. With the purple, outlining, etc that I've had added since the pic I
sent to everyone, it's basically about a $450 tattoo now and I only paid $125,
SO I can't really bitch =)

See, and I'm opposite. I don't think bee stings are that bad at all
either...... about the same irritation level as a tattoo being done =) Weird
how the same feeling can affect 2 people totally differently. OH!!! And
thanks again for the help the other night. Was very useful.
