Dogs have been treasured by people for many centuries for their
constant companionship and loyalty. Since ancient times, dogs were
mostly fed scraps from the table of their owners, or prowled for small
game to eat. However, in the last several decades, corporations have
begun making and selling what they call dog food. However, this dog
food does not contain all of the necessary nutrients for your dog.
Further, some even claim that commercial dog food is so tainted with
chemicals, that it shortens the lives of dogs. I have started feeding
my dogs, Sam and Bud, all homemade food. Since I have begun this
feeding regimen, they have become more energetic and their coats have
become more shiny. I'd like to share a few recipes that I use with
other dog owners.
Chicken & Rice- shredded chicken, brown rice carrots and sea
vegetables cooked in chicken broth, fortified with bone meal and
brewers yeast
Bones:2 cups whole-wheat flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1 cup natural peanut butter
1 cup skim milk!Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
In a bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. In another bowl, mix
the peanut butter and milk.
Add wet mixture to the dry, and mix well.
Turn out the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead. Roll out
1/4-inch thick, and cut out shapes.
Place on a greased baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes or until
lightly brown. Cool on a rack, then store in an airtight container.*
Makes 30 large bones
