Hello all,

At the outset, allow me to declare that I have no business
relationship with Moretti Pipes, nor do I receive any kind of
compensation for writing what follows. Thus, because I have no vested
interest, this posting is not an "AD" Actually, I feel that is sort
of a public service announcement.

With that out of the way, let me say that the newly opened Moretti
website (in Italy) at

www.pipemoretti.com

has some of the most incredible values that I have seen anywhere in
all the pipe world. On this site, there are MAGNUM sized rusticated
and half rusticated pipes that are selling for a mere $50 to $60!!!
Of course, there are smaller rusticated pipes with the same fantastic
value. And there are higher grades on the site that are selling for
much more, and these include some very high grade pipes indeed.

I have owned 7 or 8 Moretti pipes at one time or another and they are
great smokers and among the best values in the world. Pipemaker Marco
Biagini uses Calabrian briar that is air cured in Italy for 10 years
or more. Using very little machinery, Marco produces excellent,
accurately drilled and great smoking pipes and uses no putty, as far
as I have ever heard. In addition, his connections with the briar
mills and cutters allows him access to some of the largest briar
blocks around, and he can and does make some fantastic and lovely
shapes, some of them nothing short of gigantic. His pipes are seldom
seen in America, because the 1000 or so that he makes every year are
usually bought by his Italian customers and by other Europeans.

Some Moretti pipes display nothing short of exquisite straight grain
and are expensive and rightly so. I own a few of these myself. But for
pipesmoking values relative to smoking quality, Moretti pipes are a
match for just about any brand around. And like I said, when it comes
to his rusticated and half rusticated pipes, I do not know of ANY
BRAND in the WORLD that can compare in quality and price.

For those who like values, and for those with deeper pockets, you will
likely enjoy browsing Marco's new website. Some of the pipes he is
offering there are simply amazing.

But Fred, we all know that they smoke great because of the grain :-)

See you in Chicago.

Thanks Erwin. This pics were cool, but I wondered about the weight.
Comfortable and lightweight are as important to me as smoking properties.

Hopefully, this will get posted as I have had some "compooter" problems.
Cheryl, I also have several Moretti pipes and had one which was heavy but
none of the remaining five have bad or uncomfortable stem work! (I'm a 4 to
5 size Dunhill pipe "liker!" Hope this helps!

I agree Erwin, I've owned three Moretti pipes (now all sold) which were good
smokers but about as heavy a pipe as you could have. As a clencher this was
not a good thing.

Hi Erwin, Neil and all,

there are a multitude of different shapes, sizes and weights on the
Moretti pipe scale.
Our Finnish Club Pipe 2001, lovat, is about size 5 in Dunhill grading.
Light in weight, minimum extra wood, excellent briar quality and
smoking the pipe is effortless and very tasty. Stemwork is also very
good.
Marco Biagini makes usually BIG pipes, he doesn't scimp on the briar.
His wild freehands are not my cup of tea.
I love the way his briar smokes, two bowl break in and it's smooth as
silk. Look for lighter pipes and you can ask Tarek, Daniel or Clive to
get some of those in stock.

I have 1 Moretti which I like very much. It is a bent natural
rusticated with very thick walls thus smokes extremely cool. I would
say mine is heavier than some but since I hand hold all my pipes that
is not a concern. I would also recommend Moretti's for excellent
value. Mary
