That's one of my top five, undoubtedly. Huge Beatles fan here... My
favorite song would have to be Across the Universe with honorable
mentions going to Strawberry Fields Forever.

Huge Beatles fan myself; have to put them in a catagory all their own
a--for me--most Beatles songs trump all my other favorites. My
ultimate favorite would be the "Medly" that begins with "You Never
Give Me Your Money." But, perhaps, my favorite lyric is from your
song... "She's well-acquainted with the velvet touch like a lizard on
a window pane/The man in the mack with the multi-colored mirrors on
his hobnailed boots..." Were I to remove the Beatles from the
equation, I think my all-time favorite song is "Bewitched, Bothered
and Bewildered" written by Rodgers and Hart and performed by any of
the greats: Ella, Frank, Anita O'Day...even a version by Sineid
O'Conner grabs my fancy.
Great new beauties you've created, Maurizio. If my new television
series gets the "greenlight" for production, I'll treat myself. So,
please, cross your fingers for me!

Dear Michael, obviously is very difficult for a Beatle fan decide his
favourite, I have more than a dozen. But "Happyness" is a song that
"escape to the logic". Another exsemple is "I am tha walrus".
Removing Beatles I decide for e Neapolitan song "Ohi Mari' ".
Have great smokes Maurizio

that's easy: "tangled up in blue"
no, wait, it's "pancho & lefty"
no, "back biters & syndicators"
maybe it's not so easy after all?

Argh - one favourite song? But there are so many... If I'm forced to choose
I'd have to go with Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys.
Best,
Kenny :D
> HI all,
Marriage of Figaro
Would that be the Townes Van Zandt version of Pancho & Lefty or the
Willie Nelson version? Or maybe someone else did it I don't know about.
I'm a big Van Zandt fan, and pretty keen on some Willie too!
Casey
Wow, that's dedication. It's a nice name anyhow, though. I read a book
once that mentioned a guy who named his sons Neil and Dylan, after Neil
Young and Bob Dylan. Music is a strange monkey, how it affects people.
Casey
Yes, and I love it. It's my favorite little monkey. I've got "Mountain
Jam" on right now, the live version from the Fillmore album, and it
seems to be guiding my mood. I'm not even listening to it actively, yet
its atmosphere is so compelling, so joyous and peaceful, that I have to
have a little internal smile. The only drawback to listening to music
all day long is that it gets in your head, and you always have music in
there. I used to think it was a bad thing, but then I read that Paul
McCartney has the same "problem". Music is always playing in his head.
Hope you're well,
Ian

There's no way I could pick one song.
Too many centuries of good music to choose from.

Dave, you're making this too hard! We have to at least limit ourselves
to popular music of the 20th and 21st centuries. I mean, John Dowland
wrote a beautiful song circa 1600 called "Lachrimae". There's the fourth
movement of Beethoven's 9th symphony, especially the version by Sir
Georg Solti. There's the first movement of Mahler's 9th, especially the
version conducted in the 40s by Bruno Walter. What about "Eine Kleine
Nachtmusik"? You're making this too difficult! :-)
My favorite song is the same as the last time I mentioned it: "Inca
Roads", by Zappa. This is something that Kim and I have in common. I
also can air-guitar the entire five-minute solo, note for note. I did
this once to impress my friends in the ghetto, and they were amazed. :-)

As someone recently said, these are pleasant problems :)
Mountain Jam always puts me in that mood too. It's a strange mood, so
peaceful, if I may borrow your words. Some of my favorites are on the
Duane Allman anthology LP's 1 and 2. Especially "Please Be With Me" by
Cowboy with Duane on slide guitar. That's another favorite song.
Music has a strange way of evoking emotions that nothing else can bring
about. From the first Gregorian Chant to the most recent samples.
Well that's enough rambling for now. Thanks Ian and everyone for the
conversation. There's never a dull moment around here!
Casey
I'll take either or
willie is perhaps the most underrated guitarists of our time IMO
-sh
Really? Underrated guitarists or underrated songwriter? Don't get me
wrong, I'm a big fan of Willie, but I never saw him as a guitar
virtuoso. I'll have to pull out the LPs and listen more closely.
However, he really can make ole' trigger sing at times.
I went to a Willie concert a few years ago, and my favorite thing about
the show was the drummer. He was this old cowboy with a black hat, and
he had one snare drum. No drum set, just one old snare and a couple of
sticks. I love it :)

Still too hard for me to choose. That only eliminates about 200 of my CDs
and vinyl albums to choose one song from.
It's a day-to-day thing for me; right this minute it's something from one of
the later Zappa discs, tomorrow it could be anything.
I'm doing good to pick a favorite song from any one artist, let alone a
king-of-the-heap.
Well, let's see. What about Dylan? For me it's "Girl From the North
Country", but that's because it reminds me of my high school sweetheart.

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star
This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far
To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
For a heavenly cause
And I know if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest
And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star
The Impossible Dream
