Cigar or Zeppelin?

My next pipe needs to be something a little different. I'm looking for novelty, something to go with my somewhat eccentric personality. I've enough fine smokers in my collection, especially as I don't smoke them nearly as much as I once did. I was thinking of a Vauen Zeppelin, but then stumbled across a few reviews of the Morgan Briar Cigar.

Any thoughts on either? I still fancy the Zeppelin, but it's got that thrice-cursed 9mm filter in it, while the Morgan seems to work well (according to reviews anyway).

Thoughts, anyone?

I think the zeppelins look cool. I've seen estates on ebay from time to time, and I'm not 100% sure that they all are drilled for filters, but think the older ones may not be. I ended up with a Morgan in part of a trade (no experience using a zeppelin). It smokes fine, but there's 2 things you might not have noticed...and whether or not they are an issue is up to you. First, the end piece (cigar ash) is actually a plug and can not be put back in place while smoking. The end piece of the zeppelin looks like it is meant to be put back on after lighting, but with the Morgan you need to keep it on the table or in your pocket after lighting. The other thing is that the bits are different. On the zeppelin, I believe they are flat like on a regular pipe. On the Morgans, the bit is round, similar to a straw. If you're thinking of either/or, those are the biggest differences I've noticed. With either one though, I'd guess you'll end up getting about what you expected.

Oh, I dunno. I always thought Floyd were pompous and pretentious, while Jimmy Page was sent by the Gods.

You probably know better than me though, at least you've played guitar. All I've ever played is hooky.

Me not know Zeppelin, nor Morgan Briar Cigar, neither does me care to
research said terms.

Stems and briar, forming those into a pipe shape, maybe I know something
about, maybe not.

What is it you seek anyway?

Were you any good at it? I wasn't worth a damn in the playing hooky
department; not sure if stay-at-home-mom was just too sharp, the
schoolhouse-nazis too competent, or if I just had zero talent in that
direction; I prefer to choose the latter, given half a druther.

Recently purchased "Harvey" the old Jimmy Stewart classic about the
invisible rabbit; very very pleasant was never my talent either, but I
can do a bang-up job of playing the utter maroon when it suits.

I have enough pipes. I know PAD means one can never have enough pipes, but I have pipes I haven't smoked in years. Buying yet another would be pointless.

But I think I still have a case of PAD. I have calabashes and churchwardens and pots and pokers... I want something different this time.

The Zeppelin is a German design from the 1920s, supposedly designed to be smoked while a passenger in a hydrogen-filled dirigible with no risk of creating sparks which might blow the whole thing up. It's also sort of Zeppelin shaped (though smaller, obviously). It looks wildly impractical, but also kinda cool.

Morgan's Briar Cigar is something I hadn't seen until yesterday. It's a pipe which looks a bit like a cigar (pigar?). It looks slightly more practical than the Zeppelin, but also slightly less... erm... cool.

Okay, I admit it. I'm looking for a toy.

Ya know, there are two types of TAD. One is for Tobacco, the other for
Toys. Sounds like your PAD is TAD! <g>

from http://pipesmokersforum.com/community/threads/zeppelin-or-torpedo-
pipes.14494/

"I have one of the Vauen Zeppelin pipes... it smokes horribly hot and
wet. Mercifully, it's also impossible to keep it lit."

No big surprise given the way it looks to be made:
http://www.amazon.com/Vauen-Zeppelin-Briar-Tobacco-
Pipe/dp/B004EY9IXS?sa=X&ved=0CCIQ9QEwBWoVChMIiZvUn7HzxgIVEEyICh1hkQz3

If you want something weatherproof, a different design might be more
usable, something with a weather-cap maybe.

http://www.morganpipes.com/briar-cigar.html

Maybe somebody needs to fill these guys in on a few facts, like the ones
about hot air rising, and so forth. Might be smokable if you lay on
your back and don't mind a little juice-drip.

All joking aside, I hear it's best not to smoke next to a potentially
leaking hydrogen container, that stuff seems to get bitchy when lit.

Maybe it's just my low taste, but if I was looking for a pipe toy, it
might be something like a meer with good tits. <G>

I saw a couple half-decent looking meers in a local shop yesterday, no-
names in the $50-ish range, but they looked to be decently drilled; no
straight ones though, and I have enough trouble bothering to clean even
a straight pipe, bents are off my range.
