I think that Orlick's version of Dunhill tobaccos suck. And now
they're being discontinued, that sucks even more.

Opinions?

Cheers, Jesper

I will not miss the Orlick versions, which are not even similar to the
Murrays, but can you tell me more of the discontinuation? Thanks, Mike

I can't speak for the latakia blends as I don't gravitate towards those
blends. As for the Virginia blends it's a mixed bag. Orlick improved upon
Royal Yacht but I slightly prefer Murray's Light Flake. Three Year matured
seems less topped by Orlick [sometimes I like it more, sometimes less].
Elizabethan seems pretty similar from the two producers. I loaded up on
Murray's Light Flake and Orlick's RY and Elizabethan so I won't have to miss
them. Otherwise, I'd be quite sad about the last two.

Hey Kim,
A year or so ago one of the etailers had a clearance sale on Three Year
Matured for a really low price, like $10/lb or something. Any idea which
producer that was from?

Just shows to go you....I heard that they were, from several sources . None
of my sources were, IMO, definitive, so I can't say for certain. The tins
certainly changed to the Orlick model but that's not definitive of the
content's source, either. I can say that the blends [Light Flake,
Elizabethan and TYMV] do taste slightly different to me [some more than
others and especially TYMV]. If Orlick never took them over then Murray's
might have been getting sloppy when they put the first foot out the door.
Then again, it might be an age difference or a faulty palate by your's
truly.

Not the slightest, Mouse. There is so much disagreement on what, who, how
and when in regard to that transition that I don't know what to believe.
I've decided to believe my palate. I only saw slight variations with the
Elizabethan and LF. Yacht seems to be a lower nicotine version than before
and TYMV seemed to have less of the topping [is it raspberry?] when I tried
it from the new tins [different bottoms] associated with the transition .
All the variations could, I guess, be explained by age differences and
operator error [that's me]. Never had any TYMV in bulk. Hopefully someone
with bulk TYMV will wade in.

I'm going to miss Early Morning Pipe. I'm a new enough pipe smoker that
I never smoked any of the Murray's EMP, but I love the Orlick stuff. I
enjoy Light Flake as well.

Like 'em or not, losing Dunhill blends would be (and possibly will be?)
a blow the the pipe smoking community.

I prefer the Orlick version of EMP, but they will be missed. Now, will
Orlick sell them under another name? I mean, maybe dunhill wants to go
pc and stay away from tobacco.

You do? So do I! I love that hearty malty flavour, great just before
bed-time to ease one into a deep sleep. Now do tell me you like Pimm's
no1 cup as well? That is my favourite alcoholic beverage, the spices
and faint cinnamon flavour just cannot be beaten. Perhaps C and D
could top a tobacco with either or? Just a suggestion ^_^
Peter.

Lanes, Mcleland and Robbert Maconnel!

I've been smoking MM965 for about three years now. I like it. I don't
know how it compares to the blend of yore, but it compares favorably
-- holds its own -- with the other good English blends that are out
there today, including my two faves, Westminster and Squadron Leader.
I *prefer* these to MM965, but I like slipping a tin of the Dunhill in
from time to time.

I think what I'm trying to say is, seems to me folks often get overly
rabid with the Dunhill bashing these days.
