I have a hand carved pipe of the Queen. It's mammoth ivory with
bakelite stem. Never smoked. I found it at a yard sale about 5 years
ago and just now found it again in the box I stashed it away in. Could
any of you help? Thanks Steve B pirat...@gmail.com

Steve,
Without any pictures it's rather difficult to say one way or another.
However, I suspect what you actually have is a meerschaum pipe which
you can find the value of on eBay by checking similar meershaum pipes.
If indeed it is ivory it would be extremly heavy for its size and
would have the characteristic symetrical lines associated with real
ivory. These can be seen if you remove the stem. Ivory as you may know
has been banned for a number of years so its rare to find pipes that
are made from it. Tsuge use to make them for the PX in Japan until
ivory was banned and I have 3 myself. If the pipe is ivory it would be
worth in the neighbordhood of $2000.00 +.

Hope this helps,
Robert

How in the hell can you even farthom an approximate value of $2000+ if
it is an ivory pipe when you started out saying its difficult to say
without seeing pictures.

Dude ... chances are ya got a meershaum pipe and without knowing
anything at all about it, in regards to it being from pressed or from
block meershaum I would say if your looking for a rough value its
worth about whatever somebody is willing to pay for it. I bet you were
watching one of those storage locker auction shows and when you saw
this pipe again in a box you thought you have some score of a great
find when in reality you probably have at best maybe on the highest
side to somebody who really really wants it bad is possibly a couple
hundred at the very best but as Robert said without pictures its
really difficult to say.

Oh yeah ... it might also matter on what Queen it is. Queen Latifa
might be worth tremendously more than if its a Drag Queen.

Because that is what Sab Tsuge stated in the Winter 2004 P&T Magazine
(under the Ask Chuck section in the back).
" If we still made them, the cost would currently be more than
$2000.00, though ivory items can no longer be exported to the United
States".
