This is a quick update on the pipe and tobacco scene in Berlin. A few
weeks ago Nils turned 51. I told him that he doesn,t look a day older
than 53. Anyways, we had a nice celebration with the Berlin Tobacco
College, Nils's family and a few new pipe smokers.
Last weekend we met in the northern region of Germany called
Mecklenburg, in a small town called Warren. Some Berlin Tobacco
College members and a few pipe clubs from the north went for a nice
boat ride on Germany's largest inland lake called the Mueritz. It was
a pleasant evening spent with fellow pipe smokers, tasty food, good
tobacco and beautiful scenery. In addition, Nils donated a few pipes
for an auction during the boat ride which added to the fun.
Each month Nils has a little auction on his website for the "pipe of
the month". The auction starts at 50% off the list price and closes
at the end of the month. As with all auctions the highest bidder gets
the pipe. This auction is more for fun and keeping a dialogue going
among interested pipe smokers. For this reason, the auction does not
have the formalities of EBAY thus requiring pipe smokers to be pipe
smokers, that is to say gentlemanly conduct and honesty. If you find
you are interested simply send an email with your bid and on the last
day of the month the winner will be notified.
On the 4th and 5th we will be attending the German Pipe Makers Show in
Bonn. This show is organized by Achim Frank and will be a great event
as it draws the very best of Germany's pipe making talent. I'll try
to get some pictures while we are there and send them out. In the
meantime, have a safe and pleasant summer, good luck in the monthly
NTP auction and most import, relax with your pipe.
