The wife and I got some rare quality time together the other day and watched
"The Legend of Bagger Vance". A very good movie with several of the
characters always with a pipe and puffing away.

I just saw "Brother, where art thou?" A fantastic movie with 2
pipe-smokers near the end. See it, it is hilarious and the music is
excellent.

My favorite is C. Aubrey Smith in the !930-something movie "Beyond Tomorrow"
about three business partners who die in a plane crash and come back to help a
young couple that are down on their luck.

Very craggy face, bushy eyebrows,ex-military man, very rawthuh; even more of
the quintessential Englishman than Basil Rathbone.

The way the weird little housekeeper - an ex-Russian noblewoman played by Maria
Ouspenskaya - can tell that his ghost has come back is that she hears him
knocking his pipe. "Josef", she says to the butler, "Make sure the colonels
tobacco box is kept filled with good tobacco." she says in a thick Russian
accent.

Great movie. Even something in it for cigarette smokers...

Hi Dennis,
I once saw a movie called: Mr. Blandings builts his dreamhouse'', a lovely
oldie. About everyone but the dog smoked a pipe in it, and most of them made
a nice fuss about it to.

Hi Denis,

The other night I saw a movie I liked quite a lot."Shadowlands", starring
Anthony Hopkins and Debrah Winger. Hopkins scarcely ever rests his pipe
during the whole 90 minutes.

L.A. Confidential (I don't think there are any shots of him actually smoking
it, but Dudley Smith(James Cromwell) is holding a pipe at one point during a
scene in the Chief's office. And there's a large, circular pipe rack on the
desk.

In Legends of the Fall, there's a short scene where Anthony Hopkins is
smoking a corncob, and in Higher learning, Laurence Fishburne has a real
nice looking bulldog.

Who smoked a pipe in Hollow Man? I don't remember that one.

Crash looked over at me with a glazed eye and some bovine perspiration

on his upper lip area and said:

>Who smoked a pipe in Hollow Man? I don't remember that one.

Dr. Kramer, the head of the Project who gets drowned in the pool, has
a couple of nice pipe scenes. Either William Devane is a pipe smoker
or he's really done his homework - he looked quite natural as he lit
his pipe and smoked.

Scott, I had originally doubted that big meers lion's head could be
authentic, but somebody here once posted that it's actually in a museum
somewhere. I think I'd like to see this one covered on "History's Lost &

101 Dalmations (animated version). Dad (good) smokes pipe throughout
entire movie. Cruella (evil) smokes cigs. Wonder how they did it in the
recent (Gleen Close) version?

Just saw Lee Van Cleave smoking what looked like a Peterson in "The Good,
The Bad and The Ugly". Clint stuck with cigars.

In addition to all of the foregoing, and all great choices for viewing, you
have to remember that all John Ford movies, especially the US Cavalry triology
(She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, Fort Apache and Rio Grande) besides having the late
John Wayne and Ford's cast of stock players, had great pipe smoking throughout
each one. Also, in the Grapes of Wrath everyone but Henry Fonda is smoking a
pipe.

AAMOF, in the original (Lou Ferrer) version, Sgt "Cat" smoked a nice
Hunting Pipe while in No Mand's Land on the wiring pearty early on.

Didn't test the Three Match Rule, though...

Two more:

This Is Spinal Tap: Derek Smalls (AKA Harry Shearer) is smoking a full
bent/Oom paul affair in many of his interview clips... and does appear to
actually be smoking it in several shots!
Raiders of the Lost Ark: One of the U.S. government guys is smoking a pipe
at the very end of the movie. I can't remember if he's smoking it in his
scene earlier in the film.

Blues Brothers...both the first and 2000. One of my heros, bass
player Donald "Duck" Dunn, is rarely seen without his pipe. Also Henry
Gibson, who played the leader of the infamous Illinois Nazis. Maybe
others as well...can't remember.
