He had a helluva run.
I think I'll put Them on the dvd tomorrow and have a bowl in his memory.

James Whitmore was a very fine actor, I remember him best from his
performance in the Shawshank Redemption as the old ex-con who couldn't
handle life outside the prison walls. R.I.P. and thanks for letting us
know, Bill.

James Whitmore was a fine actor, he was an all American. I still
enjoy his old movies, he was a classic.
I still remember when he did commercials for the Tinder Box back in
the 80's; around Christmas time for TV. He was sitting in his easy
chair smoking his pipe talking about the "simple pleasures," pipe
smoking being one of them.

I read the whole article and he had a great life. Thanks, Bill. I
remember him in the movies that were mentioned, and of course the
Miracle-Gro commercials. I'll smoke a bowl of Carter Hall in a large
Charatan's Make Freehand Relief in his honor.

I've got all of the old Tinder Box Catalogs with him on the cover and
inside
discussing the joys of pipe smoking. Always enjoyed how he would
smoke
a pipe in a lot of his roles. A bowl of Abingdon in his honor.

What a great career . I the most vivid memories I have of him are the
Sargent on Battleground and the TVspecial characters Will Rodgers,
Harry Truman and FDR and of course the old inmate on the Shawshank
Redemption. I salute him with a tin of Frog Morton on the Town in my
only Charatan.
