Now, the question is...what did Holmes keep tucked away in the bottom
of his slipper? If you don't know...find out at the event.
The Great Pawn Hunter
P.S.
Rules and thread will be posted the week of the event. Remember, if
you want a Tinsky Curling Pipe (TCP) just send me an email and I will
get you in touch with Glenn Tinsky. The price of the pipe is
currently $75 usd and $5 usd shipping. Remember, also that now is the
best time to order your different tobaccos and have them for the
event. Don't let TAD strike the day of the event.
What what what?
Contest?
Curling pipes? (Avoiding slipping into dumb blonde mode with the
obvious jokes about how do you use what of the various types of hair
torture instruments on a pipe to make it curl... or is that on the
toeback?)
Slipper? (Is this some sort of slip shod Mason thing? <evil grin>)
Contest?
Best time I've ever done in a contest is 1 hour, 20 minutes, 53
seconds on 3.3 grams... don't know as I can keep *any* bowl lit for 24
hours, no matter how many pounds I pack in there!
*Ahem* Uhm... could someone refer me to an explanation of what he's
talking about?
Hi Kate,
Soon as GPH reads your post he'll fill you in on the contest. Some
aspers enjoy participating. I've tried smoking contests, the more I
concentrate on keeping the bowllit, the sooner it dies out. :-)

I can relate.
My first few contests were abysmal... 3 minutes was doing good. Then
I'd re-light the pipe and keep it lit for as long as the guys that
were winning. Go figure! I finally had to drop the idea that it was
a contest out of my mind (other than keeping up to get it lit on time)
and just smoke my pipe...
Yes, I can see were this could be confusing to someone new here. It's
merely slow pipe smoking contests for different tobacco types. I always
thought that curling was that game in the Winter Olympics where they
slide a weight on the ice and then use brooms to help it along. Just
stay tuned and you'll get an idea of what's going on. I guess it's
referring to the smoke curling up. If you've done 1:20, you're a
shoe-in. Don't worry about the Persian Slipper thing, it used to be
called Baghdad Bob's blend, but you don't have to smoke that if you
don't want to. BTW, are you a natural blonde? :)
Charles
Well... I grew up in a neighborhood where I'm considered a brunette.
But in my family, I'm a blonde.
More the tone of brown that is like a nice grade of Amber or medium
oak.
But, I am getting blonder every day.
The Persian Slipper is in honor of Sherlock Holmes and it is a slow
smoking competition. All a pipe smoker has to do is smoke one bowl
and post his time along with the name of the tobacco and the pipe used
to The Persian Slipper Curling Thread which will be posted the week of
the event. There will be 5 threads one for each Curling section.
Here are the rules for the event that we just had...The Mark Twain
Curling Classic which was a nail biter.
A smoker lites the pipe. One good charring light ...then a tamp and
one good relight to get the pipe good and lit.
Then a Curler smokes until the smoke stops. The timed smoke is then
posted to the Curling Competition's thread.
Pipe Chamber width: 3/4 inches
Pipe Chamber depth: 1 1/2 inches
There is a Standard Curling pipe that has been created for our events
by Glenn Tinsky, son of Mark Tinsky. The price of the pipe is $75 usd
and $5 usd shipping. It is a great smoker especially for aromatics
which are my favorite. It also smokes flakes well. It comes in
various colors and rustications. Just send me an email if you want a
pipe and I will forward it on to Glenn.

I'm in...and pulling the Conan Doyle off the shelf. "The game's
afoot!"
