I was wondering if anyone had a idea of how to remove
scratches in meerschaum pipes. Also, removing smudges.
Thank You,
Guy
I would think that you could remove fine scratches by using very very
fine sand paper or even a soft wet rag or an "xacto" knife. Unless the
pipe in question is inexpensive or you are skilled at carving or have a
steady hand, I would leave it alone. Removing ome of the surface finish
could remove some of the bee's wax coating which could affect the
"coloring" of the pipe.
I have a very nice, finely carved eagles claw with egg that has a dent
in one of the claws. It doesn't hurt its smoking characteristics.
After a while I've almost forgotten that it's damaged. I just say that
it's "personalized".

I don't know, but I've been wondering the same thing myself. What I've
been thinking about, since meerschaum absorbs water so readily, is
putting a few drops of water on the scratch and see if it doesn't bounce
back. Anybody done something like this?

Hello ,
The best way to remove the scratches is sanding the pipe with fine sand papper.

Pipers,
I tried the fine sand paper trick and works great, yet some wax was taken also.
Thanks for all responses.
Guy
It works for me to Frank !
