On July 11, 1798, The US Marine Corps was created by an act of Congress.

Congratulations to the wearers of the Eagle, Globe and Anchor on their
207th birthday!

Regards,

This is not the date that Marines recognize as the birthday of the
Corps but we thank you for your thoughts and will remember them come
November 10th.

The Marines have always been the point of the spear. I have ultimate
respect for all who have served in it.

I have no greater respect for any man or woman than I have for one that
serves this country in the most honorable branch of the military we call
Marines.

I tried, found out I had arthritis.
All who serve are heroes, the tip of the spear no less, than any other.

Really? What happened on November 10 that makes it the Corps birthday? ;-)

Maybe ya might want to research yourself a little bit or listen to some
of the former Jarheads of the group. There is a wealth of information
out there that will show you the error of your birthday message but we
still thank you for your thoughts sir.

Thanks and we'll take the congratulations any time of the year, but I
seem to remember standing at attention on November 10th on the Marine
Corps Birthday while paying homage to Chesty Puller.

Ok, I found out that on November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress of
the 13 original Colonies formed a "corps of Marines." So even though
they weren't technically the United States of America yet, that's
considered the traditional birth date. Sorry, everyone!

I get these daily "what happened on this date in history" reminders, and
Monday's was that on July 11, 1798 the US Congress first *officially*
authorized the USMC.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program! ;-)
