I also have the 1996 Sika deer pipe which I smoke on a regular basis.
Between the '97 & '98 I think the '97 will become my favorite because of how
well it fits in my hand.
I wasn't smoking back in 1995, but I keep an eye out for that years pipe and
will hopefully find one at a resonable price.
Cheers,

Erik is a very nice, if quiet, gentleman. About 6 months ago, one of the
local tobacconists had him and Peter Stokkebye out to the shop. Peter did a
~ 20 minute presentation on tobaccos, and how they're grown and "processed"
for pipe tobaccos. Pretty interesting.
Erik was there with a _bunch_ of pipes, in varying grades. His English was
a little broken, as I recall, but a great guy. He had two variety of the
hunting pipes there, including the goose. They were quite striking, and the
paper with the description was the capper. Wish I'd had the money to buy
one, then. I ended up with a large orange and black freehand, with a
squarish, smooth bowl and an unfinished top. When I went to visit my
parents (with pipes, of course!), my mom commented specifically on that
pipe. I'm usually not one for freehands, but it was a heck of a deal for
what I paid for it.
