I own 3 Peterson Stardard Pipes with the famous P-Lip and army mount. I
personally like the cool smoke from the P-Lip, however, I find that it is
extremely difficult to pull a pipe cleaner through the stem because the
hole is a bit too small for the pipe cleaner.

Does anyone has any ideas how to clean the stem especially in the middle
of a smoke ?

Use smaller pipe cleaners? Seriously, I smoke mostly p-lip Petersons, and
don't have this problem unless I try to use extra thick pipe cleaners.

A pipe cleaner can be finessed into the stem through the hole, but it
takes a little practice. Furthermore, if your system standard has a
military stem with a metal cap on the shank (most do), the stem can be
removed during the smoke without fear of damaging the shank. I have done
this many times with my silver and nickel capped pipes and have never
encountered a problem. Do NOT do this with an ordinary tenon and mortise
stem and shank, as you run a very high risk of cracking your shank.

There's two ways to clean these Peterson's.

1/ Burn about an inch or two of the fuzz off the pipe cleaner and shove
that through from the bottom up. Now it slides easily and can be gripped
upon exiting the bit.

Next, and more drastic,

Take a heat gun and heat the bit till it is straight, when it's still hot
and soft, push a 1/16 inch rod through it while it cools. Then drill the
bit out with an 1/8 inch drill bit. Now push a 1/8 inch wire into the bit,
heat it and bend it back to the curve you want. Let it cool. Now pull the
wire out from the bottom end of the bit. You can drive a Mac truck through
it now, or maybe regular pipe cleaners.
