I also have a couple of churchwardens, an old LHS with a very small
bowl, and a Brebbia Twin convertible with a stem extension.
Is it a small bowl, or a large one, wide or narrow, deep or shallow?
Hazarding a guess, I think that these might also be factors to
consider. One thing that might be good in a churchwarden might be
tobacco that normally smokes too hot and would cause tongue bite.
I'd say any Va based blend since Va's tend to burn hotter than English/
Balkan blends.
Churchwardens are among the 'tamers' of all tobaccos; similar to
meerschaums, clays, genuine calabash pipes and corn cobs.
The length of the stem and/or shank of a churchwarden cools the smoke of
any tobacco.
The material that the bowl is made from on the other hand, imparts it's
own influence.
A clay churchwarden will give completely different results than a briar
churchwarden or a churchwarden made with a meerschaum bowl, given the
same tobacco.
Your question is actually a bit too general to allow for any kind of
definitive answer.
