I just learned that Master pipe rejuvenator, and life long
pipesmoker Jim Benjamin passed away on 06 Jul 07, at his home in
SanDiego, Ca. A real loss to the pipe community.

Oh, I'm very sorry to hear of this.

I will fill my GBD with this wonderful 'Black Knight', a Yahoo Pipe
Club blend from C&D.

Many people restore and repair the pipes we smoke. Jim resurrected
them. May his soul be blessed; may his family be comforted; may we
all take a moment to honor his passing, and smile at his gifts he so
kindly shared with us.

Oh, that is sad news, Paul. I had a few long phone conversations with
him, but I never had the fortune to meet him face to face. He taught
me how to not slobber in my pipe and I have been a dry smoker ever
since. He "opened up" a number of my pipes and I will think of him
when I smoke them. He was a treasure, and I am thankful that I had
those moments listening to a master. He surely left his mark on our
hobby. Several bowls in his honor.

I'm very sad in hearing of his passing. I spent a number of afternoons with
him through the years; hard to believe he is gone.

What a loss to our community. I can't say just how many pipes Jim has
opened for me over the years, but it was a bunch. He was always full of
stories and tips. He once took a very ugly pipe of mine with a dull
pinkish red stain and turned it into an absolute stunner with a new
finish.

Jim's work ethic was inspiring. His turn around on boxes of pipes I sent
him was just amazing. -bw
