Rick's thread about noting your level of experience made me dig out this
draft of an "ASP Code" I sent to a couple people back, oh, 6 months ago.

You may have seen these things on USENET or various mailing lists. It's
a cryptic two-line set of codes which mean things to people who know
how to read it. :)

This is somewhat tongue-in-cheek, and it may well be silly. Note that
it's version 1.0 PRE-RELEASE. ;-)

** About The ASP Code **

The ASP Code allows members of alt.smokers.pipes to quickly
communicate their experience and attitude with pipe smoking. It's
somewhat geeky, but useful to those who can read it!

Here is my ASP code, as an example of what the final product can
look like:

ASP Code Pre1.0 S00 Y02 Ps Pq C+++ Freq-
Types(V++ VP+ L+ F+) !Bl !Bus :-) W+ TR-

So let's look at each element in the code, and then we'll revisit

Heh! You really think that's easier or simpler than just coming out and
*mentioning* what your preferences are, from time to time? ;-)

Well, maybe a little. But you might consider adding another category...

U: UseNet familiarity

U++ I have been using UseNet since the Internet was called ARPANet.
U+ I am an old hand at reading and posting on UseNet.
U I think I've finally got the hang of this newsgroup stuff.
U- My buddy had to set up my newsreader for me.
U-- I ignore proper posting etiquette, never edit my posts for readability,
and often quote reams of text just to add a one word reply.
U* I am a top-posting twit and you can't stop me - neener-neener-neener!
U** I am a clueless Google Goof who thinks alt.smokers.pipes is a "web
site."

Hi Jason,
You created an amazing body of work in your "ASP Coding System". Throw
it away. Don't show it to anyone else.
