I don't have the address or phone, but you can make a quick call to
directory assistance and tell them, "McClelland Tobacco Company in Kansas
City, MO."
They'll either give it to you or tell you to call 1-(KC area
code)-555-1212. That should provide what you need if you don't get it in
some other way. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

If you call them, they'll send you a very nice brochure listing all of
their bulk and tinnned tobaccos with fairly detailed descriptions of
each.

I contacted McClelland last summer and spoke with Mary McNiel
about a bulk tobacco I particularly enjoy that my local shop
discontinued. She had me send her a sample and determined which
tobacco it was, sent me a fresh sample along with a brochure, and
gave me the name of a mail order tobacconist that carries it. I've
had only the one experience with them, but I was very satisfied with
their response.
Mike...sorry about the snide retort earlier...I see now why you said what
you said.
I was clearly off the mark, and I sincerely apologize. I just thought it
was another
"American products are no damned good" remark. Sorry again.

I have smoked McClellands tobacco for years and years, and will continue
to do so. The product is good and reasonably priced. I just didn't see
the type of customer focus when I called this summer.

Before I get my eyebrows flamed off, I just wanted to qualify my
statement. Mike, if you meant you didn't know why Dr. Holland would want
to contact McClelland's in view of the fact that he could get what he
wanted locally, I apologize, and I retract my statement; however, if you
meant that you didn't know why he'd want to contact them because their
products are not worth smoking, then I should say that Wesley didn't
deserve such a dismissal of his opinions and preferences regarding the
tobaks he smokes. For that matter, neither did all of the others in this
group who enjoy McClelland products. As for myself, I haven't smoked any
of them as yet (I have an unopened tin of Frog Morton that has to wait
until I smoke more of what I already have opened), so I have no opinion at
this point, but for those who do, all of them are equally valid to such a
subjective issue. Just thought I'd amend the above, as in retrospect, it
seemed a little short.

Hi,
You can get that at Royal Cigar in Atlanta. 1-800-722-7692
I've never smoked it, for years either Black Mallory or Professional
was my staple and I'm not that interested in new latakia blends. I
did try Buteras latakia blend and I am glad that I did.. Jack
Emmantraut said it was the best English blend he had ever smoked. I
told him it was a very refreshing smoke and I agreed with him, I've
never tried anything better. Everybody is lamenting the blends
from the past that're gone, I say try the Butera blend you won't
miss the old days. BTW it is made to order by McClelland. For a
change of pace the Virginia Woods is a real treat It is the
smoothest and non-bitingest virginia blend I've smoked
I don't mean to insist it contains White B. They must have matured the
Va's well to have left them with that nicotine level.
Really an excellent pipe tobacco.

I've heard similar things from the local store owner. Apparently McC's
is also trying to dive heavily into cigars, and they're pushing them rather
hard. This guy has limited space...REALLY small shop...and he has cigars
that he likes, that are known, that will sell. He wasn't happy with them
either.
Apparently Mary's husband is a 'bottom-line' guy...just my impression, from
limited evidence. If so, tho, this doesn't bode well. One has to wonder how
long they'll continue to offer production facilities to PCCA, and sell their
reserve and collector series blends.

Craig,
As a businessman myself, I would simply point out that all business people
have to be "bottom line guys" to one degree or another or they will soon
be *out* of business. At issue is *how* a given business chooses to
improve it's bottom line. One way is to offer a quality product at a
competitive price, add a healthy dose of friendly, efficient customer
service, and keep a sharp eye on your expenses.
Unfortunately, all to many business take the quick and easy route of
cutting corners, offering up a downgraded product at a marked up price.
This may have a short term favorable effect on the bottom line, but at the
cost of long term alienation of the customer base.
No doubt it is this practise you are refering to at McClelland. If Mr.
McNeil has indeed started on the road to taking the easy way out, then we
may very well be seeing the beginning of the end. Hopefully this is not
the case. He may very well just be trying to run a tight ship in an
environment that is sometimes very hostile to the tobacco industry.

If you only knew the real story, which I'm not about to tell you in respect
for Mary.

When was the last time that the CEO or owner of a manufacturing company
took the time to talk to you or any end user - Mike McNeil is a no BS type
guy, but he is in no way snobish or "above" talking to consumers. Mike &
Mary will both be at the Chicago pipe show in April - I suggest if you
think these folks are so out of the loop that you go to Chicago and find
out for yourself what they are like.

You heard wrong - McClelland introduced 2 lines of cigars at the 1996 RTDA
- they had over 400 stores request orders with the possibility of supplying
40 to 50 stores. Why would McClelland or McNeil be busting this guys chops
to buy his cigars when he's already oversold with over 300 shops on his
waiting list? Could it be that your guy is one of those that has NOT got
Mcclelland Cigars yet and is pissed about being left off the list?

Mike is "bottom line" with QUALITY of production. Mary is the one that
takes care of the books, sets the prices, does billing, etc.

I have no idea what this is supposed to mean - McClelland produces limited
production products for us through our cooperation of ideas and Mike's
skill - its not about money, theirs or mine. Why would they not want to do
business with PCCA?
I generally do not add to these "flame bait" type threads, but when it
comes to slandering McClelland, and their people, I've got to say
something.
AMEN Bob ! ! ! Let's hear it for Mary and the great tobacco company
McClellands ! ! ! Evidently, some of us just have an axe to
grind....for no other reason than to slam one of the few American
Tobacco companies. I have never had a problem with McClelland
Products..or the people with the company....and personally will continue
to purchase there products. Bob---ya got any Christmas Cheer left over
? email me and let me know ! ! !

Good Blast from both Barrels.
I was at McCranie's this past Saturday and asked both McCranie
Brother's about the rumor of Mike McNeil being a "Real SOB" both
disagreed completely.
I like you am quite happy indeed with McClelland's having smoked their
blends for years. I purchased 2 lb.of bulk Coyote and one McCranie's
calls St. Albans....not sure of the McClelland number along with (6)
tins of Frog Morton Saturday.
I obviously enjoy their product and am glad to see others do as well.
