I'm an appraiser from Omaha, NE. One of the items I've got to appraise
is an antique meerschaum pipe. There's no question it's very old. I
however am not an expert. Would someone be able to help me out. I have
two pictures of the pipe and case. There are two dogs (they look like
bulldogs) hand carved on the top/middle of the pipe. The case is
leather w/ a maroon velvet inside. Any help is appreciated. Tom M.

my email address is: t...@valuated.net
If I could upload the images I would, I can email them out. Thank you.

Like with most things it is a matter of what someone is willing to pay
for it. If you go to Ebay and type in meerschaum in the search box you
will probably find a few similar pipes, watch them and see what they
bring. Most of the meers like the one you describe are not pipes but
rather cigar holders, so you may want to do a search on that, too.

I have traded emails with Tom, and suggested he look at completed auctions
on ebay for cheroot holders.
