Furthermore, Gladwell suggests that there is a common personality to
hard-core smokers.

Research conducted by Hans Eysenck, a psychologist, has shown the hard-core
smoker is quintessentially an extrovert who craves excitement, is
temperamental (loses his or her temper easily), takes risks, is spontaneous
and is both somewhat unreliable and emotional. Moreover hard core smokers
have been shown in countless studies to have a greater sex drive than
non-smokers, and often have a greater attraction to members of the opposite
sex.

Eysenck quotes these statistics: 15 percent of non-smoking white women
attending college had had sex, with 55 percent of white women smokers
already sexually active. The numbers for men were virtually the same.

Gladwell writes that "the average smoking household spends 73 percent more
on coffee and two or three times as much on beer as the average non-smoking
household."

Gladwell summarizes the heavy smoker's traits as follows:

- defiance
- sexual precocity
- impulsiveness
- indifference (to the opinion of others)
- sensation seeking

They rank much higher on what psychologists call "anti-social" indexes: they
tend to have greater levels of misconduct
and be more rebellious and defiant. They tend to make snap judgments. The
take more risks. The average smoking
household spends 73 percent more on coffee and 2 to 3 times as much on beer
as the average non-smoking households.

Antis have long accused smokers of lying, in hope people will be so distracted they won't
notice all the lies antis tell. Now we see them calling smokers sociopaths to distract
attention from antis' own sociopathology.

The pattern lets us predict what antis will come up with next. They'll call smokers
misologistic, which means hating honest and rational argumentation. Or they'll call
smokers energumen, meaning fanatical about one issue. Or they'll say smokers are stupid.
Mark my words, it will be one of the three. Just remember, it's a smokescreen.

Old news.

NYC mayor Bloomberg said smokers were either stupid or crazy.

Thanks for confirming what I said, but you left out many other projections. You could have
called smokers hate mongering sociopaths. You could have called them peccatophobic for
having a strong sense of right and wrong, clean and dirty, because of guilt for betraying
their friends: Daryl J Rosidivito (aka Eric Ross) and Penny Peterson. You could have
called them cowards or slackers. If you shout loudly and often enough, no one will notice
YOUR sins.

Let's look at the facts:

Adolf Hitler, non-smoker ( murderer)
Gandhi, enjoyed an occasional smoke
Benedict Arnold, non-smoker( murderer)
Albert Einstein, smoker
Ayatollah Khomeini, non-smoker( murderer)
John F. Kennedy, smoker
Osama Bin-Laden, non-smoker( murderer)
Notorious BIG, smoker
That balding jackass from that shitty 90's rock/rap band Blimp Liscut,
non-smoker

and on & on...

Frank Sinatra, smoker
Idi Amin, non-smoker
Pablo Picasso, smoker
J. Edgar Hoover, non-smoker
Nelson Mandela, enjoyed an occasional smoke
Pol Pot, non-smoker
George Washington (and all the founding fathers!), smokers
Charles Manson, non-smoker (believe it or not)
Bill Clinton, smoker (obviously)
David Koresh, non-smoker
Christopher Columbus, loved smoking!
And most importantly Girl Models Smoke!

Draw your own conclusions...

Non-smokers are nutcases and mass murderers!

Nah, that can't be. I read somewhere that smoking makes you look old, not to mention
yellow teeth. Take for example the smoking model Paulina Porizkova, who first appeared in
Victoria's Secret at age 40 in 2005. According to antis, she should have looked like a 65
year old hag. Girls: don't take up smoking unless you want to look like this at 44.

Prisons are going smokefree.

Count on some violence and perhaps riots if they're able to enforce it
at all.

Where it's been done, the impact was minimal.

There was some smuggling but no more than other drugs.

Hey, it's a prison.

BTW, I don't recommend that as a cessation method.

Where was it done before, Bruce? Got some specific research?

Remember, smoking is more addictive than heroin, which is a lot more
fun but not as demanding for the next cigarette hit.
