That Gaeton Fonzi guy Lamar was out with that night in Dallas, the
House Select Committee on Assassinations attorney who looked like an
Italian gangster--? He was appearing on some Chicago radio show with
Jack Ruby's sister., She was spitting mad that anyone impugned her
brother's character--it was all guilt by association, she maintained,
her brother Jack was one fine, upstanding strip-club owner.
Outside the studios as the two of them waited for a cab, Ruby's sister
continued to lace into Fonzi, with all the vituperative, righteous
fury a sibling can deliver. It was a storm of invectice to which he
couldn't really respond--she was an old lady who was hurt and mad as
shit. Her cab pulled up as she delivered the final, stinging smack:
"My brother Jack may have hung out with killers--but that doesn't make
him a killer!!!"
She was in the cab and zooming off before Fonzi realized, "Hey, wait a
goddamned minute! We all watched him kill Oswald,. on the fucking
TEEVEE--!!!"
I think it was Fonzi who told me about the huge apartment block full
of grifters and whores with a central courtyard which was its own
little kingdom--ruled by a massive black guy named JUG STANG.
