10 of pipes
AHA! 12 of ducks! YOU go fish!

In the sixth position of your spread, the Future position, we have the
10 of pipes. This represents the potential for a calamity or challenge
in your near future. This is coupled with the appearance of The Bobbie
in the eighth position, the Influence position. His presence indicates
you will be able to choose whether to confront or avoid the situation.
I advise you to carefully consider the costs and benefits--both
emotional and financial--before you decide on a course of action.

Alright. You picked up on that. I was thinking about an SG tarot deck
and what cards would be in it, in fact I almost wrote it up, but I was
too tired and went to bed instead. Now, maybe someone has done this
already? It is kind of obvious, but often the obvious sails right past
us without even saying hello.
Anyway, I got as far as Pipes and Saucers, then I couldn't think of any
other suites. Frop? Squids? Sales? Sales makes sense. That would
make "Bob" the King of Sales. I'm not sure if Slack is a suite, or a
single card. The Devival. The Bobbie. The Escape. The CON. These
are all fairly obvious. Maybe Twin Towers? What else? I'm not really
up on this stuff, so someone with more knowledge should probably fake
it from here.

Fists?
If Saucers are Pentacles, Pipes are Cups, Fists are Clubs, and Swords

Excuses?
I'm thinking all the SubGenius tarot cards should have qualities which
correspond to the traditional cards. That way someone who's familiar
with a regular tarot deck can do a reading with SubGenius cards.
The Minor Arcana's easy: Pipes, Saucers, Sales, and Excuses, with their
qualities corresponding to the traditional suits of Wands, Swords,
Pentacles, and Cups, respectively. The imagery seems to fit pretty well.
The Major Arcana is where it gets tough. All I can think of is The
Bobbie (corresponding to The Fool), and Slack (corresponding to The Star).
saucers should be cups, pipes should be swords
Then $ signs should be pentacles. Fists would be good clubs tho

I was thinking he'd be on the King of Sales. But yeah, I can see "Bob"
as The Fool.
At the same time though, I really like the idea that the "Bob" head be
one of the suits.
I can't think what suit it would fit but it would just be cool to have
one of the series be all multiples of the "Bob" head.

Sure. I used to date a girl who was into tarot and was pretty good at

Made me pull out them old debbil books, you bastards.
Earth, air, fire and water. Seems to me Squids would make an appropriate
Water suit.
Saucers = air = Swords
Pipes = fire = Wands.
$ = earth = Pentacles.
Squids = water = Cups. But I like the Fist idea better. It would make good
cards.
The Magus... "Bob" in his basement workshop, wielding a ballpeen hammer,
discarded household appliances littering the work table, a human brain in a
glowing glass jar with a pair of Connie's panties draped over it.
"saucers should be cups, pipes should be swords
Then $ signs should be pentacles. Fists would be good clubs tho"
I figured the pipe-bowl corresponded to cups, and the saucer-disc
corresponded to pentacles............ but then the pipe does seem to
be used like more of a wand. I thought excuses were more like a sword
(cleaving the past "reality"!), but damn it'll be hard constructing an
agreement....... Plus I love sales as pentacles.
King of Sales is nice but "Bob" has to be major arcana. Fool, Devil,
or Magician. Or the 'copyright-circle-'C'-with-pipe' as Devil.
Or maybe ALL the major arcana should be "Bob"!
I'm pretty interested in what the Hermit and Temperance could be.
This sounds good. 'Fists' is great but 'Excuses' would make a good
water suit as well.
But for compromise, imagine a giant squid as The Chariot.
Cups is supposed to be all malleable and feminine and ductile and soft.
As a corresponding suit, Excuses makes more sense than Fists.

I too vote for squids. It sounds better: Nine of Squids. See?
I would make The Excuse one of the Major Arcana. In fact we might as
well formalize this and settle on a standard for screen display and
printing and then get to work posting on ABS. I figure folks can make
up their own decks out of the ones they like best, so no two will be
exactly alike, which is fine by me.
Tarot draws from a deep well of myths and archetypes, all of which have
their parallels in the CofSG. I've tried to stay true to the wisdom
of both in making my choices, but I'm no authoritay. Most of them seem
obvious to me, but I'll admit some are a bit weak. I'm more about
fleshing this thing out than getting hung up on particulars. Maybe
someone else has a better take. If so, let's hear it. I'm not out
here for my health you know.
I'm using this site as a reference:
http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/learn/meanings/
but there's lots of others. If you have a better choice, post it.
OK, here we go:
Major Arcana
Fool - The Bobbie
Magician - "Bob"
High Priestess - "Connie"
(Read the bios. It's a perfect fit)
Empress - Wei
Emperor - Stang
(again, a perfect fit, right down to the the golden hair. The names
even have a sinister ring, so the effect is not lost on the
uninitiated)
Hierophant - The Doktor (the paid-up one)
Lovers - Sex Goddesses
Chariot - Escape Vessel
Strength - The Devival
Hermit - The Yeti (or maybe The Nenslo?)
Wheel - The Luck Plane
Justice - SLACK! (what else could it be?)
Hanged Man - The Purple (well, right color anyway)
Death - Stark Fist of Removal
Temperance - this is a tough one! (The Joke?)
Devil - JVH-1
Tower - WTC (our deck is better. It has TWO towers!)
Star - Eternal Salvation?
Moon - The Excuse?
Sun - The Sale?
Judgement - X-Day
World - The Pinks
Minor Arcana
In Pipes, Saucers, Sales and Squids
(my choices - feel free to disagree)
These could be personalities from the Church,
or just numbers. (is there any difference?)
Ace to Ten
Court Cards
Pages (notorious bobbies?)
Knights (famous doktors?)
Queens (famous doctrices?)
Kings - "Bob" again. Obviously the king of sales, but also the king of
pipes. Thus he appears three times, which is a sacred number.
Connie should probably be Queen, or maybe King of saucers and squids
for obvious reasons. Gotta strike a balance here somehow.
Now, if we get off our bulbous behinds, we might actually pull this
off. Subs with no graphic inclination should consider writing the
texts and interpretations so that these cards can actually be used to
tell fortunes. A Tarot booth at X-day is definitely something to aim
for, if not this year then next year for sure! (sound familiar?)
I also like the idea of an optional fifth suite. This can be anything
of the author's choosing, like...oh...I dunno....BEARS, for example.
pb
This is the only one I would disagree with. Only because I see The
Fool as more of a starting location (fresh and wet and sticky from the
womb) rather than a permanent state. The Fool is prepared to make
his/her ascent/descent. The Bobbie (the way I see it) thinks he/she is
already at the top of the tree. Throwing coconuts at the Elephant and
the Ant fucking on the jungle floor below. A young "Bob" would be more
fitting. I think. Idunno.
Personally. Thought you did a nice job though. Otherwise.
"I speak your very word..."
Basically I was trying to follow the narrative.
*With all his worldly possessions in one small pack, the Fool travels
he knows not where. So filled with visions and daydreams is he, that he
doesn't see the cliff he is likely to fall over.*
That cliff being an encounter with "Bob"......
*In standing for the Querent, the Fool represents a time of newness, a
time when life has been "re-started" as it were. The person feels that
they are back at Zero, whether that be in romantic affairs, or career,
at their job or intellectual persuits. Far from being sad or
frustrating, the Querent feels remarkably *free*, light hearted and
refreshed, as if being given a second chance. They feel young and
energized.*
A fairly accurate description of the state most Bobbies arrive in. I'm
reminded of the old WB cartoon where the little dog hops around, going
"what we do now now Spike, huh, huh, what do we do now?" only to be
repeatedly slapped down by the older more cynical bulldog.
*Unfortunately, in this childlike state the person is likely to be
overly optimistic or naive. A Fool can be a Fool. This is the card
likely to turn up when a Querent is thinking of investing his money in
a new, "sure fire" business*
Eh? Eh? Now look at the first person he encounters on his journey:
*Traveling on his way, the Fool first encounters a Magician. Skillful,
self-confident, a powerful magus with the infinite as a halo floating
above his head, the Magician mesmerizes the Fool. When asked, the Fool
gives over his bundled pack and stick to the Magician*
Eh? Eh?
Now, I realize this doesn't exactly fit the traditional description of
a Bobbie, but as an optimist (which I believe "Bob" is) I'm prepared to
accept that most Bobbies are on some sort of path, whether they know it
or not, and in reality tend to fork over the money fairly soon, or
wander off a cliff never to be heard from again.
I'm also trying to draw attention to the fact that all of us, whether
we admit it or not, have some element of the Bobbie in our personality.
Now as I understand it, "Bob's" encounter with the Stark Truth and his
eventual discovery of Slack were for the most part lucky accidents, not
the result of a quest in which he encounters various characters that
help him fill in the missing pieces of the puzzle. So, that's why I
made the fool the Bobbie. He represents the latent Subgenius in all
his irritating splendor, just starting down that path to eternal
salvation (or triple his money back)
Of course there's nothing that says we have to follow the original
script. If I've learned one thing from this church, it's that if the
facts don't fit, you can always use an eight pound ballpeen hammer and
MAKE them fit.

Good idea. Someone should organize an apathy protest march.
I'd go, or at least I'd talk about going before eventually deciding it'd
be too much hassle.
>Someone should do something about all the apathy in this church.
I was thinking we could make a tarot deck with 77 "Apathy" cards and
one "Bob" card.
But that would be a bad idea.
You know why?
Not because it's a dumb joke (though it is). Not because people would
feel ripped off (though they would, and I would probably feel
genuinely bad about that).
But because, if they made any impact at all, Bob Dean would come
along, post 11,000 lines explaining how the 77 x Apathy + 1 x Bob had
this post-modern tweed academia elite Marshall Machluhan meaning,
which would make no sense at all, and he would then spend the next six
months going "bwa ha ha" and "exactly" as if he were in on some
secret.
Which, really, he will do anyway.
But all it takes is one pink boy to ruin even a bad joke.

Kerry Thornley did a "Bob" tarot -- started it, rather, in the late
80s, got only about 5 cards into it, because the cards were cigaret
packages that he decorated, and he only produced one every now and

can cut and paste Dobbshead's with the best of them, but this calls for
a bit more finess.
If you did a good job, you could probably sell them for around $30 a
deck. You know, $30 here, $30 dollars there.... pretty soon you're
talking real money.

No! Dozens have done one or two, but it's always The Fool with "Bob".

WHOA!!! Like the Steve Jackson SubGenius INWO Game! We'll be so RICH!
Only this one'll be EASY... yeah! Easy!
The SubGenius Tarot is a half an idea which resurfaces just about once
every 1.5 years. The victim of the half idea comes up with like five
cards and the suggestion that someone else come up with the rest and
make them all. When someone actually creates a SubGenius Tarot they
will not talk about it, they will present it as a fait accompli.
When you talk about an idea, you kill it. I wish I had a (something)
for every person who's told me all about their great idea that they are
definitely really going to do and then never do it. In James Norman
Hall's book "The Forgotten One and other true tales of the South Seas"
is a story "Frisbie of Danger Island" about a fellow who epitomises this
error. At their first meeting, Frisbie related in its tiniest detail
his Grand Plan of Life, and continued to refine it, telling it over and
over for years, and never taking even the first step to put it into
action. Thus my dictum - if you want to bring an idea to fruition don't
tell anybody about it.
Yes, and all you'd have to do to do a "good job" is put hundreds of
hours of work into it and have it professionally printed and die cut for
hundreds and hundreds of dollars and end up with a half dozen cartons in
your basement of which you will sell about three decks a year if you are
lucky, leaving you down by about 98% of your total investment of time
and money because the number of people who have 30 bucks to waste on a
useless novelty in-joke card deck is far smaller than you think. And
that's why nobody does it. There are good ideas to talk about and good
ideas to do. This isn't one.
I've said it before and I'm saying it again: Someone should do something
about all the apathy in this church.

Whoa... hundreds and hundreds! Even Carl Sagan couldn't afford THAT!!!

I knew you'd get it! It's the Vision thing, isn't it?

All I want is to find one other person in the entire world who will actually
implement ANY idea.
There is NO ONE else. There ARE no new ideas.

Fell On Black Days
Whatsoever I've feared has come to life
Whatsoever I've fought off became my life
Just when everyday seemed to greet me with a smile
Sunspots have faded and I'm doine time
Cause I fell on black days
Whomsoever I've cured I've sickened now
Whomsoever I've cradled I've put you down
I'm a search light soul
They say but I can't see it in the night
I'm only faking when I get it right
Cause I fell on black days
How would I know that this could be my fate
So what you wanted to see good has made you blind
And what you wanted to be yours has made it mine
So don't you lock up something that you wanted to see fly
Hands are for shaking
Not tying...no not tying
I sure don't mind a change
But I fell on black days
How would I know that this could be my fate

Well, this is why life is a meaningless farce.
At least it's not an unfunny farce.
Here I am.
Bob Dobbs
The last defense.
Good enough for me, though.
Well me too. Its that or nuke the neighborhood.
