"Am I sorry for Booth and Oswald, pinks and cocaine too?"
-- Marilyn Manson, in the song 'Target Audience (Narcissus Narcosis)'

That's a Marshall McLuhan reference -- "I call this peculiar form of self-hypnosis Narcissus narcosis" (Playboy interview), also the title of chapter 4 of Understanding Media -- to the fact that we don't realize our technologies are extensions of ourselves

Rev. MM has quoted Dr. MM a few times, especially in the 2015 single 'Deep Six' (deep 6ix?) which lifts several lines from McLuhan's introduction to the book 'Subliminal Seduction'

Makes sense to me that he or anyone would be into both McLuhan & SubGenius, I already thought they went together very well since before I encountered purple. But it's quite suggestive, to me, that his reference to 'pinks' is in the song with the McLuhan-based title. And that the song ends with the lyric: "you're just a copy of an imitation".

Another song from the same era 'Astonishing Panorama Of The End Times' uses multiple phrases that appear in Revelation X ("quitter-god" and "THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD FEAR"); the band were happy to sign my Book of the SubGenius and clearly knew what it was, so it's very likely that 'pinks' is a SubGenius reference.

(the album title "mechanical animals" also appears in Revelation X but that's a less specific or unlikely phrase which was also iirc used by Wyndham Lewis at some point and probably others, I wouldn't presume to add it to a list of 'Revelation X references')

Anyway, I wonder about Rev. Manson's impressions of purple.
(I noticed he also broke a long silence to post something on the 14th)
I wouldn't presume to call him a SubDeanie just because he digs SubGenius AND McLuhan -- for all I know he hates purple more than anyone else for exactly that reason!

...

I am also unsure about that other prominent SubDeanie, for very different reasons.
But I'm less interested in hearing from him. He said more than enough already.
