I seen an advertisement on a television show the other day advertising an
Acne Helpline (1-800-470-ACNE). I figured I would give it a try & call the
number.. so I did. The lady nurse who answered the phone was VERY friendly
and helpful -- I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. She gave me the name of
some facial cleansers, moisturizers, and products containing Benzoyl
Peroxide and is sending me out a pamphlet packed with information on acne.
Unfortunately, the lady speaked quickly so I didn't have as much time to
write down the information as I would have liked to have had. So, for the
sake of getting the names down I wrote them down quickly and sometimes only
got half the word written down. I figured I would post the information
here since it might help someone else. Please don't go into your drug
store looking for products matching the names I write down... just go in
and look for products that have a name that sounds the same -- spelling is
one thing I'm not good at.
These products were all recommended by their dermatologists:
Cleaners:
Snap
Sea Breeze
Hibitone
Clearasil
Johnson & Johnson's Clean & Clear
Use once in the morning.. and once at night WITH a face cloth so that it
can remove your dead skin cells.
Moisturizers:
Neutrederm
Mousturelle
Complex 15
Use once a day before you go to bed.
Benzoyl Peroxide Products:
Clearasil
Oxy 5
PanOxyl
Benzadil
Annamel
Use as directed.
For best results, make sure you use all of these things in combination each
day. Start each day by cleaning your face with your cleanser & a face
cloth. Then apply your benzoyl peroxide product. The one I have, Oxy 5,
directs you to use it twice daily. So then I apply it at some other time
during the day (I do it after dinner). At night, make sure to wash your
face again with your cleanser & use a face cloth once again.. then apply
your moisturizer.
I asked the lady about Vitamin A. I've read some studies that claim
Vitamin A helps acne. She told me that Vitamin A in foods and in pills
isn't what helps make acne better... she said it's an acid that is found
along with Vitamin A that is altered that makes your acne better. She told
me it's only available by prescription. So, I guess I can go throw out the
two bottles of Vitamin A suppliments that I just baught. :)
Hope some of you find this information helpful.
If you have any questions and would like to have them answered by a nurse,
just call the helpline number. The lady I talked to was REALLY, REALLY
friendly and made you feel completely at ease while talking about something
you may find difficult to talk about.
Take care,
Dave Hanson.
Best wishes
Rich :)
