I have my second one today. First, my skin has been pretty dry the past
week, due to both differin and the microdermabrasion treatment last week.
I was very happy with it cause my skin is usually an oil slick. I would
rather be dry any day.
i do not have any blemishes come up at all for the last week, which is of
course, a big plus.
my scars are still very noticeable, but less red, i really don't think
there are going to be much changes at all.......i am slightly disappointed
about that, but i still have two more microdermabrasion to go, I shall wait
and see.

Kellie, I just had a microderma treatment on Friday. I go again on this
week. I don't know if all the machines are similar, but what "number" did
she do your face on. My face was done on 30. I guess they adjust how hard
it comes out of the tube. I have been using intregal (sp?) DNA on my face
all week. I notice that my face was lighter. After the treatment my face
was sort of hot and throbbed for a while, but by the next day all was gone.
I have really bad brown patches on my face, melasma. So far they haven't
really lightened. But I will keep you posted. Oh I have a really dark one
inch scar on my forearm that she will work on next time. She said she will
put the machine up higher since it is not my face. I let you know how that
turns out too. Elizabeth

Elizabeth,

If you aren't using any sort of tyrosinase-inhibitor while doing the
microdermabrasion treatments AND using a sunscreen ;), you really won't
see much in the way of lightening for the melasma. The
microdermabrasion will remove the upper layers of the stratum corneum
(which include the darker cells), but these dark cells are "born" in the
lower layers of the skin, approximately 28-34 days below the surface,
and you must basically turn off the melanocytes in order to reduce
future pigmentation problems.

Microdermabrasion CAN help the melasma because by removing the upper
layers of dead cells, the hydroquinone, kojic acid (or whatever skin
lightening product you use) can then penetrate down to the melanocytes
more rapidly and begin working. In general, if you use a skin lightener
only, you could see results in 4-6 weeks; used in conjunction with
microdermabrasion, you can see significant results in as little as 3
weeks.
