Hey, what's your problem?
We're two skaters from Alaska. You know, the Northwest US. What's your
problem.

PS- Kurt Cobain and Nirvana were cool.

As sorry as this sounds, i must for one agree with Tron although the guy
had no argument. Kurt Cobain was a fuck up. He only made progress by
letting people pity him for being descriminated as "alternative". He had
nothing to say, no talent. He was simply a dumb, sorry for himself,
heroin addict. I dont blame the guy for killing himself. he deserved it.

He had no talent, you're saying but he sold a hell of a lot of records
and he was pretty popular and his death was mourned by millions. Sure,
he did drugs and stuff but I mean these days who doesn't? And as for
you saying he deserved to committ suicide and die, that's pretty mean,
nobody deserves to die.

Jason, you're a fucking moron. How can even begin to compare Kurt
Blowbrain to Jerry Garcia. Curt didn't have a clue on how to play
guitar. Jerry was one of the most amazing, and influential guitaurists
of the last three decades. The olny thing that Cobain influenced is
more shit bands with no talent. All that his music consists of is three
power chords played over and over again with some whining to accompany
it, and he attemps to call it music.

He sold millions of records because people though that he had something
important and original to say. Something nobody has ever tried to
express that way. However, our society's ignorance towards the
perspective and thoughts concerning ideals, governement and morals of
millions of people, led them to beleive that he was someone special. It
was only because of a growing popularity in what is now considered
"alternative" that brought him to thier attention. Had he not been
glamorized for the idiot he is, he, as well as his so called style of
life, would still not be accepted. It is therefore the fault of the
media for causing such a stir over something so small and insignificant.
And yes, some people deserve to die. Be it because of pity, or
inhumanity, some people are better off dead. It allows others who
appreciate life, to live with less concern. Besides, sometimes death is
not a negative thing. I for one agree with the saying: "Forward to
death".

Heh. At least Kurt Cobain had a genius method of playing the guitar. And good
structure of a song. Yes, he didn't know how to play the guitar like Jerry, but
at least his music isn't like shit like Jerry's is (or was). There songs
(Grateful Dead) just plain suck. Has no catchy melody to it at all. And why did
you bring up suicide? I'm not saying Kurt was good for doing that, but that has
nothing to do with the topic. If he didn't commit suicide, then you'd have no

Generally when people start off saying "At least...", they
basically agree with what the first person said, but give an argument
to make a point on another manner. But here, the first person said
that Kurt Cobain didn't have a clue how to play guitar, and you said
"At least he was a genius at playing guitar." Um, okay....just an
observation. Don't take it personally. =)

Kurt Cobain having a genius method of guitar playing. Even Nirvana fans have
to admit that playing 3 power chords is not genius. He did the same thing
bands like the Ramones did but writing meaningless lyrics. I don't like
Grateful Dead either but at least they could write better lyrics and play
guitar. Nirvana does suck. And I'll say it to any of their fans.

*sigh* I see you don't understand. 1st of all, I was talking about method, not
how good you could play guitar. What I meant is he could figure out riffs that
blended with each other and and sounded good. Unlike the Dead. (in MY opinion).
And before you said he was the most popular musician (or something like that) and
he killed himself. That's probaly why he did it. He talked about how he hated
being mainstream. And why the hell is this on alt.skate-board?

Not necessarily. One could also mean that despite your assertion

I suppose one could say that person contradicted him/her/self
but it could still be valid if he/she added that even though
Cobain was only good at 3 chords or only knew 3 chords, he
was good at playing those chords as illustrated by the melodies
and sound in the songs etc. Just a thought.

I don't know about you but I listen to music for the music. Not to see
somebody jump around on stage to avert peoples attention from the fact
that they have no musical talent. Cobain wasn't even original with his
stage acts... Toppling the amps, setting guitars on fire... It had been
done 25 years earlier by a man who could actually play guitar(damn
well) ... Jimi Hendrix!

Could you please explain this genius method...

> >And good structure of a song.

intro-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus-outro... That's about as
simple as song structure can get. Except most songs usually have a
guitar solo. Most of Nirvana's songs didn't have a solo for a good
reason... Kurt couldn't solo.

Shitty by whose standards?

Most of Beethoven's, Bach's, and Mozart's music don't have catchy
melodie, I suppose that means that they just plain suck. Right?

Good point I shouldn't have brought up suicide, I apologize.

No excuse for what?

I never said it was.

Tell me a way that I can express my opinion to those millions of fans
and I'll do it... until then I think saying it on a nirvana news group
is as close as I'll get. By the way I never said that Nirvana
sucks (which they do) I was just talking about Kurt Cobain, mainly
comparing him to Jerry Garcia.

Actually I'm not thinking "hey..leave me alone, that's my opinion". If
you want people to leave you alone then why are you posting to
newsgroups, which are public domain. And whats with all the name
calling. People start calling names when they don't have an arguement.
I'm looking foward to a response.

I'm talking about both of these peoples music. And musically Kurt had
no clue. The only reason people liked nirvana was because of thier
image. There are many people who listen to greatful deads music and are
not dead-heads. (myself included) The fact of the matter is that a
generation of kids were looking for something to believe in, and nirvana
happened to be in the right place at the right time... With a lot of
media\MTV hype they didn't need musical talent. They could've been
rappin or singing country music for all that mattered. I'm not blasting
nirvana fans for liking the band, all I'm saying is that their music
isn't of the best to come around in the last century.

Sincerely,
Seth.

Once again... his lyrics seemed like they were writen by a 4 year old...

ya know... this NG, every time i poke my head in here i see the same 3
threads.
1. Top 13 Nirvana songs that do not begin with f.
2. Nirvana SUCKS!
3. Marilyn Manson/Hanson sucks/rocks

now the first one is understandable... its a nirvana NG. but the next
2... if you dont like nirvana, then why are you in here? unless you are
a bhuddast monk... and the last one... thats usually crosposted to 30
other newsgroups including: alt.sports.whiffle.ball,
alt.binaries.fisting.your.grandma and
alt.drugs.crack.pipe.marion.barry.crack.rock.homey.g.thug.gangstaz

so i was just wondering, why do people come in here to talk shit? there
must be some very violent, and insecure people in the world, if they
need to be stupid in somone else's newsgroup just to fight...

so anyway. my 2 cents
Kurt was great at guitar, and a great preformer. jerry was great at
guitar, but he was not a great preformer... they both had their
different styles of music. i mean, and teh symphony you dont see the
violinists moshing, and the timpani drummers headbanging do you? no.
thats their style :-)

If you think that Kurdt Cobain is more well known than Jerry Garcia you
must be living on a different planent than I am... or at least on some
drugs more potent than either Kurdt or Jerry ever took (if that's
possible)

And this is so much inferior to Kurt Cobain's practice of [mostly]
standing in one place for a couple of hours?

I don't know, I stand behind what I said. This just doesn't sound
right:

Person A: Kurt Cobain didn't know how to play guitar.
Person B: At least Kurt Cobain was awesome at playing the guitar!

Call me crazy...

I don't remember. =)

Maybe. Perhaps if Greta had specifically said something along the
lines of "Well, he may not have known a lot of technical methods, he
was a genius at doing what he did with such few chords..." (And by
the way....since people are going to make fun of me for giving such a
shit about what Greta did or should have done, I'd like to say now
that I really don't care, I'm just going along with Pete for sake of
discussion.)

It is kind of a dumb statement, for sure. I was just trying to
play Devil's Advocate. :)

But, it was quoted above. =)

I think that would have to be implied for it to make any sort of
sense.

I have no idea who 'Greta ..." is and don't remember any of the
posts from that person so I was just suggesting a case for
Cobain's guitar playing. I assume that real techies and serious
guitar players will mock or criticize his guitar playing so I just
suggested that extensive knowledge of playing wasn't *absolute*
(i.e. absolutely required) or "everything".

Yeah, but there wasn't enough for me to figure out what I was
talking about.... Of course, I DO have the original note....let me
check. Okay, yeah, I guess I did mean "matter."

She's the one whom I first replied to.
