I was pretty fed up with my cardiologist. I had a funny spell where it was
hard to breathe and I had some dizziness and felt super-tired. I had an
appointment with him the next day. The dizziness was over, but I was still
feeling tired and having trouble breathing. I told him about it. He said the
stress test I had last month didn't show anything wrong. He clamped a thing
on my finger to test my blood oxygen and listened to my chest. He said my
blood oxygen, heart and lungs are all fine. He asked if I'd been under any
stress lately, and I told him about Nanki-Poo. He said that could be it. He
said to call if it gets worse. Otherwise he'll see me in "a couple of
months". He didn't seem to take it seriously.

He was in the room with me for a total of about five minutes. As I said, I
was pretty fed up, and thinking I wouldn't go back to him at all if it
weren't that he's the one who prescribes my blood pressure medication. I
don't have a serious problem with my heart, and he always wants me to come
soon.

Today he called me. He said I wasn't feeling well when I was in last week,
and he wanted to know how I was feeling now. I was blown away.

Yes, it is. My gastroenterologist sometimes calls, and so does my vet, but
that's the first time this guy has called.

Did he tell you what your oxygen numbers were? If not happy go to
another or just your regular doctor could help if you don't like the
breathing feeling. Also do you take your blood pressure at home?

No, he didn't give me any numbers. I have a blood pressure device, but
haven't taken my pressure at home for a long time. The feeling did go away,
but if it comes back I'll go to my regular doctor.

Thanks.

Saw a new doctor last week....set up by the surgeon. He looked as
though he should still be in short pants. I just couldn't take him
seriously. Anyway he asked whether I had any health problems as an
opening gambit - so I whipped out the A4 sheet I carry which has
everything written out and he was 'gob smacked'.<grin> I am a walking
time bomb. <grin> Anyway he handed me up onto the couch as though I was
a piece of Dresden China <grin>
He will be taking care of me in hospital - looking forward to it <grin>

Yes, it is in France. The healthcare is superior to that in the UK.
I had a minor procedure done yesterday at Clermont Ferrand and I had a
maxillofacial surgeon do it. In the UK I would have got an SHO. We
are covered under a Carte Vitale which is totally free as I am a
French resident and the other 20% is picked up by Axa. The green card
is put into a reader at the docs/pharmacy and no payment is made by
us, the pharmacy etc. get the money direct from Axa. This morning I
went to the dentist and had my first filling, well not really a
filling, I don't have any caries, I had worn down a tooth. Again, I
whip out the green card and that's it. I only pay for the part not
covered, such as elective crowns, implants etc.

My blood results are sent to me next day with a copy to my doctor. I
have huge respect for the healthcare system in France, the UK could
learn some lessons from them.

Well done Jingles, I have often told friends who go to their doc to
write down their symptoms because invariably they forget to tell the
doctor everything to enable him to make a diagnosis.

I know what you mean about young doctors, children some of them,
although you might well enjoy a young one in hospital Jingles, noooo,

No, it was a gastrointestinal thing. It was about 35 years ago. Basically,
I lost so much fluid, in both directions, that I went into shock. When my
husband took me to emergency, they couldn't even find a blood pressure.
They zapped me into ICU with an IV to restore my fluids. I was in there
about 30 hours.

It was quite an experience. There were six beds in the room, which was
unisex. There were three or other patients in the room at least part of the
time I was there. One was a young man who had attempted suicide. He pulled
through. Another was the woman in the next bed over, who died. I never
knew what a death rattle was before then, but now I do.

My American friends will understand this - the bill for the 30 hours in
Intensive Care was $100! The last time I was hospitalized, which was
several years ago, a semiprivate room was running at least twice that per
day.
