After high school, I went into broadcasting and became the morning newsman for
our local radio station, WSTV in Steubenville, Ohio. Stan was the new director
at WSTV-TV. When I finished my gig at the radio station, I would go to the TV
station and hang out. I rode shotgun with the chief photographer on
assignments. Also, Stan used me on the air several times.
Later, I left the station and we drifted a part. Stan continued as a local
icon in television. He hosted a noon news program and one day, as a guest, he
had a nationally famous evangelist, Bob Harrington, on his show. As it turned
out, Stan was an atheist. Stan tried to match wits with him and lost.
Harrinton stayed an hour after the show and when he left the studio, Stan was a
"born again" Christian. A few weeks later, Stan resigned his position as News
Director and joined Harrinton's ministry in New Orleans, Louisiana. Later he
left Harrinton's ministry and entered Malone College in Canton, Ohio, and
earned a degree in divinity. He then launched his own ministry.
I watched all this from the back ground as a heathen. I was very sceptical
because I knew Stan in his BC days, when we floated in some of the same
circles.
Then in 1976, Jesus found me. I didn't find Him, He found me. I was the one
that was lost. I had been singing from my teen years. I was now 33 years old.
On Easter Sunday in 1976, Jesus moved my music from the bar room to the church
room. Later, I saw that Stan was preaching a revival in a local church and I
called the pastor as told him about my past association with Stan and I asked
him if I could surprise Stan and sing for the revival. We renewed our
friendship and were able to share our ministries on several occasions.
I will miss him and the world will miss him and his ministry. He was a
wonderful person. He died of the same thing that I am suffering from, colon
cancer that metastasized into liver cancer. I will continue my fight of this
dreaded disease. I will continue to seek divine healing along with medical
healing. I will continue my ministry in Stan's memory. I will be singing for
the morning service this morning.
