Marilyn Sokol was a lovely, voluptuous actress, comedienne and singer who
became a favorite guest on talk shows in the 1970s. She had a beautiful
voice, and a great, if slightly ribald, sense of humor. As I recall, Ms.
Sokol's fall from grace came during an appearance on "The Tonight Show
Starring Johnny Carson." After a moving performance of a ballad, Sokol
merrily skipped back to the interview chair. Doing a little jump for joy as
she reached Johnny Carson's desk, Sokol's skirt flew up. On TV, the scene
was visually bleeped, but Carson's facial expression and Sokol's apologies
suggests that she wasn't wearing panties. Anyway, I never saw her on
television again, and only a few more times in movies.

Anyone know what Marilyn Sokol is doing these days?

Actually, Sokol had just finished a comedy improv she did with Ace Trucking
Company, acting like a little girl. When she was finished, she sort of
curtsied and then turned her back to the audience and flipped her (long) dress
up. It would have been harmless except that her dress went up all the way and
she was definitely not wearing any underwear. It was covered with a dot for TV
and Carson remarked "Our first moon of the year." Sokol's career was actually
on something of an upturn as she got a job in "The Goodbye Girl" after that
appearance.

She's been doing some cabaret appearances on the East Coast as recently as last
year, but I have no idea as to what happened after her notorious "Tonight Show"
appearances that caused her to drop from sight.

Funny you should mention her!! Just yesterday it was announced here in NYC that
she will be guest-starring in a new play called IF MEMORY SERVES. It will be
running Off-Broadway beginning in early December. Elizbeth Ashley stars.

The play is by Jonathan Tolins, who wrote TWILIGHT OF THE GOLDS, which became a
movie starring Faye Dunaway, Brendan Fraser and Jennifer Beals. When IF MEMORY
SERVES was done at the Pasadena Playhouse in L.A. earlier this year, Marilyn
Sokol was in it there, too.

I see her her a lot in The Theatre District in NYC. She has a smile a mile
long, and has always been gracious to anyone I've seen recognize her.
She does a lot of theatre here in NY, mostly off Broadway, but she did appear
in Judd Hirsch play a few years that played a few months.
