Star splits from Kiwi lover

British acting star Sir Ian McKellen has split from his yound Kiwi
lover. McKellen, 63, who plays Gandalf the wizard in 'The Lord of
the Rings', has confirmed he and Nick Cuthell, 23, have parted. "I
met him in the street in New Zealand and brought him back," McKellen
told London's 'Sunday Times'. "But that's unfortunately come to an
end. It was another attempt to get in contact with real life. It
didn't continue and there are reasons why it shouldn't." The pair
was seen by millions of international television viewers as they held
hands in the front row of last year's Academy Awards in Los Angeles.
Cuthell, who was studying in New York last year, had described
McKellen as a wonderful human being. "It's a beautiful
relationship," one of Cuthell's friends told the 'Star-Times' at the
time. "it was great for people to see two guys at the Oscars
together. It's a great thing for the world to see because it
says 'hey, it's OK. Two boys can fall in love'." McKellen, who
boasts more than 40 major acting awards, said he was not unhappy
living alone again.

Hmmm. I remember reading that before Ian, Nick had only been with
girls. Wonder if that's the reason they parted, ie, Nick did an Ann
Heche thing?

I have no idea what they might have in common, but I'm deeply envious
of Sir Ian. I hope that I can find a honey like that when I'm his
age! <g>

What a shame----they looked joined at the hip at the Oscars.
