I know this post may seem a bit mean, but i recently saw a picture of
Fred Savage now (he was pictured with Danica Mckellar at a Wonder
Years reunion!, for Australians this pic was in the TV Extra of WA's
Sunday times) . It just amazed me how such a cute kid could grow up to
be so ugly! Then i thought about other cute child stars in the same
boat. Two who came to mind straight away are Gary Coleman and Danny
Cooksey from Different strokes. anyone know any more?

I apologise if this post offends any Wonder years fans

I'm not in the least bit offended (of course I'm also not a wonder years
fan), but I couldn't disagree more. I found him extremely unappealing as a
teen, and moderately attractive as an adult -- probably more attractive as
he gets a bit older. I can't comment on that picture of course, but there's
one at http://www.nbc.com/tvcentral/shows/working/images/savage.jpg you can
use to see if the one you saw was flattering or not.

As for Coleman, he looks pretty much the same as he always did. Things often
appear "cute" on kids that are extremely unappealing on adults. Clint Howard
is a major case in point.

I have no idea what Danny Cooksey looked like then or now. He doesn't seem
to have done anything since 1993, except for voice work.

How could Gary Coleman be classified as an "ugly adult"? He hasn't
changed a bit since he was on DS.

I thought Fred Savage was a cute kid in a goofy way, and I was surprised to see
that he ended up as cute as he has as an adult. However his voice is very
disturbing to me!

the scary thing is, i think i have their CD... somewhere, lost in the box i

wasn't he on a Nickelodeon series too?

Didnt they both look ugly, she looks just awful, he looks worst. That
Danika used to be really a stunner on the show, how can people change so
much. Surely it could not have been the lighting or the focus of the
camera, could it?

He may not be the cutest boy in the word, but I think he's a very
attractive man. Anyone hear him on radio? He did radio here in Chicago
for a while before moving to Detroit. He's great. Lots of fun.

Actually, when he was a kid, I used to think "Boy is he going to be ugly
when he's an adult," but am now surprised that he looks not half bad (not
handsome, mind you, but better than I expected). If he works out, he could
make up for his unfortunate hair.

I also remember poor dana hill. She was this beautiful pre-teen and as a

Billy Mumy looks damn good today, IMHO. I couldn't stand Fred Savage when
he was on "The Wonder Years," but now that he's grown into a man, he's
turned into quite the stud in my eyes. When I first saw Fred Savage as an
adult in his latest TV series, I felt like Louis Jordan must have felt in
"Gigi":

Freddie -- Am I a fool without a mind
Or have I really been too blind to realize ...
Oh Freddie ...
Why you've grown up before my very eyes...

But speaking of Ron Howard ... did anyone else think he looked *really
old* in the CBS 50-year special last week? I wondered if they used any
makeup on him at all. Definitely didn't look like his picture in the
milk ad. But we all have to look our age sometime...

--Dennis

Continuing my homage to Fred Savage (to the tune of "Gigi"):
When did your sparkle turn to fire?
And my heart turn to desire?
Oh what miracle has made you the man you are!

I saw a picture awhile ago of the guy who played "Nicholas" as a kid on Eight
is Enough. He was so cute on the show, but boy, did he turn out ugly. Kind of
a short, little troll.

BTW, did any of those Eight is Enough kids ever work again anywhere (Only one I
can think of his Willie Aames (sp?) being on Charles in Charge.

Her transformation from cute to not-so-cute was a result for her
disease. Incurable illnesses can have that affect on a person.

FWIW, he directed a few episodes of Sliders (in which he starred in as
one of the four hapless time/plane(?) travellers). Apparently, he'd
like to be a director and is hoping to film 'Dylan Thomas in America'.

On the other hand I think Danny Bonaducci (sp?) was an ugly kid on the
Partridge Family but is good looking as an adult. Ditto with the bloke
from Sliders. He was the fattish kid with the really short crew cut in
Stand By Me.

Jonathan Taylor Thomas from Home Improvement is one child actor I don't
think will make it as an adult actor because of his looks. He is
already a good foot shorter than both his on-screen brothers and still
has that baby face look.

She turned 7? Seriously, she was not cute by the end of Family Ties' run.
Cute (as opposed to good-looking) kids often don't become cute adults, as
cute in kids is often the result of rather disproportionate features.

But he's considerably more talented, and straight.

Many child actors in the past have been hired for their unusual
appearance that is slightly out of the norm, but "cute". The result
has often been a tramatic growing up period that results in total public
rejection. Sad really.
that is not

His life did not begin on Family Ties, or in the United States. His first
series, Leo and Me, premiered when he was 15.

I don't get this "Fred Savage - Cute" thing at all. Am I missing something?
Or is it a gay thing?

Actually, you may be thinking of a commercial he did for McDonald's.
Bowl cut and everything. And the Tilex commercial, etc. He never did
"Family" but he did do a short series [got cancelled as soon as it
aired] called "Palmerstown, U.S.A." and a couple of other shindigs like
that.

Michael J. Fox made it and he could fall into both those categories.

But humour me here. Doesn't JTT look like a young Harrison Ford? No,
really! It's the way his eyes are set I think. Much prefer JTT to HF
myself, of course. Anyway here's another one more people might agree
with. I don'thave my Time with me, but they voted Harrison Ford as
carrying on the tradition of John Wayne, right? What's with *that*?

Not so much a "young" Harrison Ford, as a "miniature" Harrison Ford.

Sincerely,

Jules
