Does anyone know whatever may have happened to Denise Miller? She played
Jilly on the Abe Vigoda TV series 'Fish", as well as Billie on "Archie
Bunker's Place". Also starred in the TV movie 'Sooner or Later" with Rex
Smith.

Sighhh... the "forbidden fruit" of Rex Smith...

ANYWAY -- I see Denise pop up in a TV commercial every now and then. I
haven't seen her recently, though. It'd be nice to see her on a more regular
basis, on a sitcom or dramatic series.

P.S. Ok, yeah, you remember the "Sooner or Later" TV movie, but do you have
the novels? Both "Sooner or Later" and its sequel, "Waiting Games"? Denise
is pictured on the covers of both of them!

Several years ago, she appeared in a situation comedy with comedian Richard
Jeni on UPN.
She is still very attractive. I don't know why there aren't any other
appearances.

As for as her Rex Smith days, there were rumors of plenty of fooling around
between Rex and her on the set, and she was only 14 at the time! I remember
reading one writerfrom a NY paper said that when he visited the set, he found
them making out in a corner. How old was Rex at that time anyway?

(13) and he was born in '56 (23). so i hope the stories weren't true!

I don't think "Waiting Games" was a film -- that's why I was so surprised to
see her turn up on the cover of the book!

"Waiting Games" had a lot of the same self-effacing humor of the Jessie
character, but it was a far more serious read. Jessie turns 14 at the
beginning, and then fully begins to discover her sexuality. A handful of
passionate encounters with Michael lead to their "going all the way." But
it's real in that it's not necessarily the greatest experience of her life.
Hey, she's 14! It hurts!

As the story goes on, Jessie's father decides to take the family -- meaning
Jessie -- out of the city for the summer -- meaning away from Michael.
Ironically, Michael's band has gotten a break and he's going to be away all
summer anyway, touring and doing gigs all over the country. Michael calls
and writes Jessie letters and postcards. Jessie misses a period and worries
she might be pregnant, leading to a seriocomic section where Jessie lifts a
pregnancy test from the local store -- a pregnancy test named
"Quick-as-a-Bunny!" The test results say she isn't pregnant, but the
directions suggest she see a doctor to make sure -- and she does (what a
responsible book, eh?). The doctor (a woman) examines Jessie, sets up her
own lab test, and then tells Jessie to consider how her future relationships
might go -- that after you say yes once, it's tough to not say yes again. I
quote: "It's too good to give up." She tells Jessie about various methods of
birth control -- all without being preachy. Later on, Jessie gets the call
and finds that indeed she is not pregnant.

Soon, Michael contacts her to say that he can see her, as his next gig is
not too far from her cabin on the lake. Jessie and Michael talk a few times
alone, but there's more left unsaid. It's just not the same between them.

Jessie goes with Michael to see the band perform at the gig, and backstage
she notices that Michael and all the other band members at one point or
another join their roadie in the bathroom and then come out, "smiling and
looking refreshed, like they'd just come out of the shower -- except they
weren't wet." At the gig, Jessie sees firsthand the power of Michael's
talent and the response he gets when he sings. It's tremendous! She sees
then that they're moving in different directions.

At the end of the book, Michael and Jessie are forced to part, when Michael
gets an offer to take over as lead singer of a popular band, after their
lead singer dies in a plane crash. At the end of the summer, he's moving to
LA to be a rock star! They break up.

The novel ends a few months later, with Jessie seeing Michael perform with
the band on television. He's singing the song he wrote her for her birthday,
with new lyrics reminiscing about the true love he left behind.

The novel is dedicated to the cast of "Sooner or Later." I've always wanted
to write the authors, Bruce and Carol Hart, and ask if there were ever plans
to film "Waiting Games." It would have been a great film -- though I'm sure
Hollywood then, and actually Hollywood now, would balk at the subject
matter, no matter how sensitively and intelligently handled. You can show
teens screwing in a movie, and it's a nothing fantasy, but bring in a dose
of reality, talk about birth control and being sexually active and
responsible, and people have cows.

I'd highly recommend the book, no matter how old you are!
