David Morse's character was working in a prison infirmary to satisfy a
"volunteer" prerequisite for his residency. A prison riot broke out
and 3 or 4 prisoners broke into the infirmary looking for drugs. There
was a nurse with him. The prisoners were fondling the nurse when
Morse told them to stop and bravely stood between her and the thugs.
They ended up raping him.

I am sorry about not remembering the monologue... memory is the 2nd
thing to go :)

Boomer was always a hard luck character. Always being knocked down a peg
or two by Dr. Craig for getting an overseas medical degree. His
wife/girlfriend died, his child was kidnapped (but returned), he slipped
on some vomit and messed up his leg..and so on.

Does anyone remember when Helen Hunt was on as his (David
Morse/"Boomer") girlfriend? She took care of his kid a lot while he was
working.

Now that's tragic. Clancy was an independent, intelligent Harvard student
who Boomer impregnated (her cboice to have an abortion was the end of their
affair) but all you remember was that she babysat little Pete?

I don't remember what Jack said (if he said anything), but what happened
was that he and the nurse were beaten and raped by the prison inmates.
Earlier in the ep, the residents had been given their community service
assignments and Jack was very happy to be working in the prison.

Later in the series, Moats (? - I believe that's the name of the inmate
that raped Jack) showed up at Jack's house and tied up Jack and his
wife. Jack's young son Pete walked in (Moats didn't realize he was also
home) with what Moats thought was a toy gun (Pete had gotten Jack's
*real* gun from under the mattress earlier that day). Pete shot and
killed Moats, though Jack later told everyone he did it.

Hello all,

I am REALLY in need of the answer to this question because it has been
plaguing (sp?) me for YEARS!!!

I have a very vivid memory from when I was a child and my parents
watched St. Elsewhere every week, of David Morse, who played Dr.
Morrison, walking into an examining room I think with a large black
female nurse and they were trying to control three or four black guys in
this room that might have been gang members, I'm not sure.

I assume the scene then cut to another story. When it cut back, I think
other doctors walked into the examining room, I guess looking for Dr.
Morrison, and they pull back the curtain, and I can remember Dr.
Morrison sitting on the examining table extrememly beaten or something,
and the nurse was crying and holding her uniform closed. I can only
assume, what happened, but I remember there being a feeling of it being
an extreme dramatic moment for perhaps the series, and I remember Dr.
Morrison had an important monologue, and I AM DIEING TO KNOW WHAT
HAPPENED AND WHAT HE SAID.

It has been a memory stuck in my head for YEARS and I REALLY want to
know wht happened. If ANYONE out there remmebers this episode, PLEASE
let me know, I would very much appreciate it.

Thank you,
Kim

Yeah, I don't remember if he said anything, either, but I definitely
remember him getting raped, and basically turning into a real loser of a
character (OK, he was already a loser, he just got more annoying) for the
remainder of the series.

I really liked St. Elsewhere, but I never liked his character at all.

And now Morse is playing bad guys/psychos in films like 12 monkeys and
the Rock.

It WAS a great show (I never missed an episode) and, to my mind, much more
original than ER or Chicago Hope is now. But it was never the ratings
grabber of those shows, although it had its own share of "hunks" -- Denzel
Washington and Mark Harmon, just to name two!

Neither him, nor the Dr. (Ed Flanders) who left and went to Ethiopia and
came back and that was all he could talk about..Finally Dr. Craig
(William Daniels) told him to shut up about Ehthiopia. William Daniels
was great. The exchanges between him and Ed Begley jr. were hilarious!

Sagan Lewis appeared in Homicide:Life on the Streets, I believe it was
last season. She was a judge and her son (played by Elijah Wood)
was trying to have her killed. Can't remember seeing her in anything
else though.

Yeah, Westphall also became completely unbearable, and I remember wishing
for some horrid accident to kill both him and Jack.
