Matthew McConaughey (judging by how bald he looks in the mug shot)

and I recall some lovely photos of Mel Gibson's scalp peeking through
his hair at the Braveheart premiere - how many years ago was that? So
if he's still got a dark-top-of-the-head, it's artifice (haven't seen
him lately come to think of it).

Plus, all those weird Harrison Ford hairdos have to be the result of
shifting glue ooze.

evidence?

Letterman obviously doesn't -- he has hair about half an inch long which
showcases his balding spots. he jokes about a hairpiece but doesn't
wear one.

It doesn't rate as a bona fide toup (measuring about 2 inches), but it
serves its purpose (covering up an area right squat in the middle of Dave's
head).

Evidence? Let's just say I heard it on the grapevine.

Well.....
Famous if you watched TV in the '60's and '70's:

Charles Nelson Reilly (sp)

God, I need to get a life.

On a showing today on the Game Show Network, a clip was shown with a
male contestant was completely bald on top but had hair on the sides.

CNR, who was wearing his toupee and a cowboy hat, walks over to said
contestant and puts his toupee on the contestants head.

Gene Reybourn (sp), the host, then states that the contestant looks
much younger. The contestant then wants to see himself in the
monitor.

If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, (the wig, that is), I would have guessed
it was a transplant from his chest, which has, equally miraculously, gone bald,
since the days of yore, you mentioned.

That Wheel Of Fortune guy has had some "miracle" too, because in the clip of
his weatherman days, that I saw, his hairline has, dramatically, un-receeded.

As far as my opinion is concerned, wig, toup, transplants, drugs, or spray-on
head paint; *anything* is better than what The Donald and The Donaldson are
sporting up top.

A former boss insisted that Jerry Seinfeld wears one.
(Personally, I either don't pay enough attention or don't know what to
look for, and can only tell that a man is wearing one if it's really
obvious -- off color, polyester texture, or falling into his soup. I
suppose I'm the female equivalent of all those men who can't tell if a
woman is wearing makeup (unless it's blue), when to another woman, it is
always obvious.)

I don't know what kind of "proof" would be sufficient for
you, but check out his early appearances on "SNL" for starters.
He was thinning even then, and a bald spot is pretty obvious in
many clips.

Toup Wearers of the Golden Age:

John Wayne
Frank Sinatra
Jack Benny
Bing Crosby
Jimmy Stewart
Ray Milland
Yul Brynner (when he was starting out)

I think that it's interesting that the old stars weren't that afraid to
appear without their hair. Benny, unless making a film, usually is
pictured without it, Crosby, too. The Duke used to make fun of his rug
regularly. And we all know why Sinatra wear that silly hat all throght
the Fifties!

Charleton Heston seemed to usher in a new era of "Hair piece? What hair
piece?" -- a tradition followed by Shatner, Reynolds, and their shiny
ilk ever since.

I've seen SM up close on more than one occassion for quite awhile each time and
if he's wearing a piece, it's a great one. Of course, I look for these things
and didn't notice it. :) (Not saying he doesn't wear one, but if he does, lots
of his celeb peers ought to give his supplier a call.)

Someone said that Mike Meyers wears a piece and he's another one that no way I
could tell, even after hearing that he did.

That can't be a rug. A rug would look infinitely better than that
pitiful excuse for a comb over. I'll bet Trump spends an hour every
morning manipulating the long icky strands to cover his whole head.
Note that his part starts just above his ear and to compensate for the
length needed to comb over he never cuts the hair on the back of his
head. Denial on a monumental scale. I'm sure Ivana and Marla could
tell the world a thing or two about what Trump looks like when he
"lets his hair down".

Dan Ackroyd has a bald spot on the back of his head that's about 6" in
diameter. I once sat behind him and Donna Douglas at a Penn & Teller magic
show at the Wiltern Theater, and was surprised by how balding he was.
Definitely some kind of weave-job going on for his movie roles.

A lot of the other people mentioned in this thread -- Jerry Seinfeld, Steve
Martin, Paul Reiser, etc. -- have thinning hair, and make-up people use
"strategic combing" to make the most of what they have. But as far as I
know, no rugs or extensions per se.
